Deadpool & Wolverine was recently released, shattering box office records and delighting fans globally. The movie’s success largely stems from its heavy dose of fan service, with cameos and humor being its standout features.

While the film does have a plot, it’s fairly thin and filled with plot holes and timeline inconsistencies, staying true to the MCU’s signature style. However, it did introduce one new concept to the MCU—the anchor being.

As Mr. Paradox explained, an anchor being is crucial to the survival of a universe within the multiverse. As long as the anchor being is alive, that timeline remains stable. However, if the anchor being dies, the timeline begins to decay and will eventually be destroyed, a process that can take anywhere from a single day to thousands of years.

In the movie, Wolverine, who died in Logan (2017), was revealed to be the anchor being for Earth-10005. Because of his death, Deadpool’s reality was on the brink of collapse at the start of the film. Mr. Paradox sought to accelerate this decay by using the time ripper.

Anchor beings are expected to play a significant role in the MCU moving forward, given the multiversal focus of the current saga. There is already speculation that Peter Parker might be the anchor being for Earth-616, while other fans have their own theories about who might hold this vital role.

Theories about the anchor being for Earth-616 range from Kang the Conqueror to Wanda, both of whom are confirmed as Nexus beings in the MCU. However, one particularly intriguing fan theory suggests that Doctor Strange is actually the anchor being for Earth-616.

The theory’s main argument is that when Strange looked into possible futures, he likely saw a scenario where his death would cause the collapse of the entire reality. You can watch the video explaining the theory below:

While some aspects of the theory may seem questionable, it does carry some weight, especially considering that Doctor Strange has been hinted as a key figure in the Multiverse Saga. What are your thoughts? Share them in the comments below!
