New Insights Shared by Marvel’s Animation Head on ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’ and ‘Eyes of Wakanda’

The live-action part of the MCU hasn’t been doing great lately, with several poorly received projects in recent years. However, the latest animated show, ‘X-Men ’97,’ has been consistently receiving high ratings, opening up another avenue for the franchise’s expansion.
Lately, there have been rumors about the MCU focusing more on animated projects in the future. With several shows lined up for release, it’s not hard to believe these rumors.
‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’ and ‘Eyes of Wakanda’ are both scheduled for release in 2024 (for now) and Brad Winderbaum, the Head of Animation for Marvel Studios, recently discussed some details about both shows with ComicBook.
Winderbaum spoke highly of the upcoming series centered around a young Spider-Man. Here’s what he had to say:
I mean, Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is amazing, to say the least. I think it’s really going to surprise people. It is very much like a cut from that Steve Ditko era of the comics. It’s Peter Parker back in high school just trying to make it work, take care of his aunt, completely broke, and having to be a superhero. It’s so essentially Spider-Man, and what Jeff Trammell, the creator of that show, did, which I think people are going to love, is he built this ensemble of characters around Peter that you fall in love with. Similarly, just because it’s long-form storytelling, as those relationships brew when the stakes rise in that first season, things feel really tragic and dangerous, and pretty incredible. So, I love that show.
He also touched on ‘Eyes of Wakanda.’ Recent updates reveal that it will be an anthology show, yet still considered canon to the MCU. The series will follow a group of Wakandan heroes on their mission to search for and recover vibranium artifacts.
Eyes of Wakanda is an MCU show. This is the history of Wakanda as told through the War Dogs, and it is some of the best animation we’ve ever done. Todd Harris is the creator of that one. That’s just such a cool show.
‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’ is expected to debut on the streaming service on November 2, 2024, while ‘Eyes of Wakanda’ does not have a confirmed release date at this time.
