New Marvel Comics One-Shot ‘Doomed 2099’ Will Feature “Multiverse’s Most Terrifying Doctor Doom” of the Future Return To Conquer the Past

With One World Under Doom in full swing, another Doom story is coming to the Marvel Universe this summer. On July 23, 2025, a one-shot comic titled Doomed 2099 will hit shelves, featuring a dramatic face-off between the present-day Doctor Doom and his future counterpart, Doom 2099. Written by Frank Tieri and illustrated by newcomer Delio Diaz, this story promises to shake up the multiverse with a battle that could alter time itself.
Doctor Doom, the iconic Latverian ruler and current Sorcerer Supreme, has taken control of Earth in the ongoing One World Under Doom storyline. But his reign faces a new threat from Doom 2099, a mysterious and powerful version of the villain from a future timeline. This future Doom arrives in the present with unclear motives, sparking a conflict that could either strengthen or destroy his past self’s empire.
A team of heroes from the future bands together to stop Doom 2099’s plans. This group includes fan-favorite characters like Bishop, Cosmic Ghost Rider, Deathlok, Rachel Summers, the Phoenix, the Maestro, and Old Man Logan. Their mission is to prevent either Doom from gaining more power, but the arrival of Doom 2099 raises questions about his true goals. Is he here to support the current Doctor Doom or to challenge him for supremacy?
Writer Frank Tieri, known for his work with Marvel’s darker characters, teased the story’s surprises. “Look, I’ve widely been known as a ‘villains guy’ throughout my career so naturally when Marvel approached me to work on this event with not one but two of the greatest baddies of all time, well… it was an offer I couldn’t refuse, as they say,” Tieri shared. “And you’re not only getting ‘Double the Doom’ with this one shot, kids… ‘cause 2099’s bringing some friends from the future to even the odds! So is Doom 2099 looking to become the new Sorcerer Supreme? Or is his mission much more disturbing than that? I think fans will be surprised at the answer.”
The comic also ties into the growing popularity of the 2099 universe, boosted by the Marvel Rivals video game, where Doom 2099 has become a fan favorite. In the game, the two Dooms work as allies, but the comic hints at a more adversarial relationship. Tieri’s use of the word “disturbing” when describing Doom 2099’s mission suggests a twist that could catch readers off guard.
Doomed 2099 features a main cover by Derrick Chew, with variant covers by Dan Panosian and Ken Lashley. Fans can pre-order the issue at comic shops now.
This story marks a bold return for Doom 2099, a character once niche but now gaining wider appeal. With a multiversal conflict, a roster of future heroes, and the question of whether Doom 2099 is friend or foe, this one-shot aims to deliver a fresh take on Marvel’s greatest villain.
Doomed 2099 is a smart move by Marvel to capitalize on the rising popularity of both Doctor Doom and the 2099 universe. The idea of pitting Doom against himself is a clever way to explore his complex character—arrogant, brilliant, and always unpredictable. It’s exciting to see new talent like Delio Diaz join the project, and Tieri’s knack for writing villains should make this a standout.
