Nicolas Cage Discloses Digital Scanning for Spider-Man Noir Role – Admits He Is Terrified: “They’re just going to steal my body and do whatever they want with”

For over a year, rumors swirled about Amazon’s development of a Spider-Man Noir project centered on an older, more seasoned character distinct from Peter Parker. Recently confirmed, Nicolas Cage is set to reprise his role as the titular character, whom he voiced in the ‘Spider-Verse’ franchise. The project has attracted industry heavyweights including producers Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal.

The project appears promising, and Nicolas Cage recently discussed it with New Yorker, sharing insights into the show and discussing his concerns about AI. Cage characterized the Spider-Man Noir project as an eight-episode Pop-art blend reminiscent of a Lichtenstein painting, infused with a touch of sparkle.

I don’t like violence. I don’t want to play people who are hurting people. One of the things that I like about this potential show is that it’s fantasy, It’s not really people beating people up. Monsters are involved.

Cage disclosed that he underwent digital scanning for the project, expressing his deep-seated fear of this technology and legitimate concerns about the fate of his likeness after his death. His worries touch on longstanding industry concerns: could AI eventually replace artistic expression?

I have to slip out after this to go get a scan done for the show, and then also for the movie I’m doing after the show. Two scans in one day! […] They have to put me in a computer and match my eye color and change — I don’t know. They’re just going to steal my body and do whatever they want with it via digital AI. … God, I hope not AI. I’m terrified of that. I’ve been very vocal about it. … And it makes me wonder, you know, where will the truth of the artists end up? Is it going to be replaced? Is it going to be transmogrified? Where’s the heartbeat going to be? I mean, what are you going to do with my body and my face when I’m dead? I don’t want you to do anything with it!

AI in the industry appears to create a “sink or swim” scenario, where those who can negotiate deals thrive, while others risk being replaced by more economical alternatives.
