No Game No Life is a light novel series that comprises eleven volumes. An anime television series adaptation aired between April and June 2014, consisting of 12 episodes. An animated film based on the sixth volume, No Game No Life: Zero, was released in July 2017. It has been a while since we’ve gotten some new No Game No Life material so, in this article, we are going to discuss a potential Season 2 of the series.
The second season of No Game No Life still hasn’t been confirmed yet. The first season aired eight years ago and save for the sequel movie, there haven’t been any additional works based on the light novel series. Because of that, the future of No Game No Life is very uncertain and we cannot even speculate as to a possible revival of the show.
The rest of this article is going to bring you all the known and unknown information related to a potential season 2 of No Game No Life. You’re going to find out about its potential release date, whether there is a trailer, what the story could be about, and much more about this extremely popular new anime series.
No Game No Life Season 2 release date
No Game No Life debuted on April 9, 2014, with a 12-episode anime series that ended on June 25, 2014. The first season adapted the first three volumes of the light novel. A sequel anime movie titled No Game No Life: Zero was released on July 15, 2017 in Japan, and it adapted the sixth volume of the light novel.
As you can see, No Game No Life started off strong, but since 2017, we haven’t had any new adaptations of No Game No Life, despite the popularity of the series itself. Five years since the movie’s premiere, and eight years, where do we stand with a potential second season of No Game No Life?
Unlike some other anime series we’ve talked about, No Game No Life is not one of those whose future is uncertain because it’s new. The series and the adaptations have been there for a while, but we don’t actually know why we haven’t received news of another series, or a movie.
The light novel series is fairly popular, which cannot be denied. Sure, it’s not popular as some other similar titles, but it has its following and the sales are doing pretty well for an isekai title. Plus, the story is quite unique in many ways.
Everything we know about the show’s popularity points to No Game No Life coming back at one point or another, but the issue is that it’s been years since we’ve had any news on the show and that is rarely a good thing. This is why, ultimately, we think that the future of No Game No Life is more uncertain than not.
Taking all of this into account, No Game No Life‘s future seems very uncertain. The light novel is quite popular, as was the anime series, but in all honestly, the fact that it’s been five years since the last adaptation doesn’t make us hopeful. In any case, the earliest we could see a potential second season is 2023, but a more realistic scenario is either late 2023 or even 2024.
No Game No Life Season 2 trailer
You now know all the facts and our thoughts related to No Game No Life season 2, which means that you’ve probably deduced for yourselves that there is no trailer for the second season of No Game No Life. This is because we do not know whether there will even be a second season of the show, which means that a trailer might not appear at all.
As we have said, No Game No Life could be revived at any moment, but based on how many years have passed, we cannot give you anything concrete. The light novel series still has more material up for adapting and the anime was quite popular at the time, but we have to wait and see whether there are actual plans for a continuation before we can make a proper prediction. Be that as it may, No Game No Life is currently on a long hiatus (the anime) and we do not know if it will come back.
Taking into account everything we’ve said, a trailer for No Game No Life is unlikely to come out this year. The earliest we could see a trailer is 2023, but we would have to get confirmation of a second season sometime during 2022 for that to happen.
No Game No Life Season 2 plot
At this moment, we do not know which parts of the light novel series are going to be adapted in Season 2. Namely, the adaptation schedule for No Game No Life was quite hectic, with the first anime season combining elements from Volumes 1 through 3; the movie has adapted Volume 6 of the light novel series.
Now, whether Season 2 is going to come back to the unadapted parts of Volumes 4-5 or continue with Volume 7 remains a mystery at this time. In this section, we are going to recap the first season of the anime.
Sora and Shiro are two video game expert siblings. One day, they are challenged by a mysterious individual to a game of online chess. After winning, their opponent offers them to be reborn in his world, a world where all conflicts are determined by games. Sora and Shiro, tired of their world, accept his proposal and are transported to the whimsical world of Disboard.
They learn that the one who summoned them here is Tet, Disboard’s only god. Tet then tells them that in this world there are only ten rules, the “Ten Oaths”, that everyone must follow. Sora and Shiro learn that the human kingdom of Elchea is in a bad situation: the previous king has lost almost all of Imanity’s territory to the surrounding countries, and the entire human population is confined to the last remaining city of Elchea.
Sora and Shiro join forces with Princess Stephanie Dola to defeat Chlammy Zell, the final contender for the throne. We also learn that there are 16 civilized and intelligent races (the Exceeds) who share Disboard. They are classified according to their magical abilities. Imanity is last in the ranking because humans are not adept at using magic.
After finding out that Sora and Shiro know she is cheating, Chlammy tries to persuade them to give up. When they refuse to give in to the pressure, she challenges them to a bizarre game of chess. After several twists, Sora and Shiro triumph and are crowned King and Queen of Elchea. A little later, Tet returns to speak to them, to tell them that if they succeeded in conquering all the other races, they would have the right to challenge him to obtain the title of a single deity.
While making plans for their next initiative, Sora and Shiro learn that Elchea’s bookstore is run by a Flügel. They then decide to take this bookstore from him. Sora and Shiro challenge the Flügel Jibril, to reclaim the royal library. Jibril accepts, and proposes a part of “chained words”. Sora and Shiro end up winning, and after that not only do they regain control of the bookstore, but they also gain Jibril’s allegiance.
While making plans to challenge the Warbeasts, Sora and Shiro quickly understand the difficulty in coming up with a strategy to defeat them: the memories of people who challenged the Warbeasts have been erased. Sora and Shiro are at a loss, until Stephanie entrusts a key left by the former king to Sora.
This key unlocks a room containing the former king’s secret research into Warbeasts. Sora and Shiro visit the Warbeasts’ embassy in Elchea, and expose the tricks the Warbeasts use to defeat their opponents. Sora bets all of Imanity’s remaining territory, along with the lives of all citizens, in an all-in game against the Warbeasts.
However, awaiting an answer, Sora mysteriously disappears without a trace. Shiro realizes that she is the only one who remembers Sora. After discovering the truth behind his brother’s disappearance, Shiro realizes that Sora is playing a game against Chlammy in which they bet existence and memory.
With Sora in a bad position, Shiro imagines himself in his place according to the rules of the game and wins the game. Thanks to this, Sora and Shiro win the trust of Chlammy, and his elf partner Feel. After completing their preparations, it’s time for Sora and Shiro, along with Jibril, Stephanie, Chlammy, and Feel, to challenge the Warbeasts with the fate of all Imanity at stake.
But as soon as the game begins, Sora and Shiro give in to despair when they notice that the virtual world of the game they are playing is none other than their native land, outside, the traumas of their past resurface. After recovering from the shock, Sora and Shiro face Izuna with the help of Jibril and Stephanie. They quickly realize that the game is rigged, so much so that it is impossible to win.
By the time Shiro is seemingly under enemy control, the game seems to be in favor of the Warbeasts, until Izuna realizes she’s been manipulated by Sora and Shiro all along. For the first time in his life, Izuna finally enjoys playing a game, and decides to let loose against Sora and Shiro. Sora and Shiro are surrounded by Izuna’s activated Blood Destruction.
But when she thinks she has won, she falls into a final trap and loses. Soon after, Sora and Shiro are summoned by the leader of the Warbeasts, the Sanctuary Priestess, who wants revenge, for the sake of her people. But the challenge ends in a tie. Sora and Shiro manage to convince her to join forces, and establish the Union of Elchea by merging the Warbeasts’ territory with that of Elchea.
