Executive Producer Assures You Don’t Need to Watch Previous Deadpool & X-Men Movies to Enjoy ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’: “There is something for everyone Here”

A frequent criticism of the current MCU is the need for extensive “homework” due to its interconnected nature. To fully grasp the current project, viewers often need to watch numerous movies and shows, which can be overwhelming for casual fans.

To address this concern, the MCU has introduced the ‘Spotlight’ label. Projects designated as ‘MCU Spotlight’ are standalone and character-driven, meaning they don’t require prior knowledge of the broader cinematic universe.

‘Echo’ was released under the MCU Spotlight label, and ‘Marvel Zombies’ is another animated project confirmed to be standalone. With the release of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ and its numerous cameos, many from the previous Fox X-Men franchise, fans have expressed concern that they might need to watch at least 10 movies and 2 seasons of ‘Loki’ to fully understand the film.

However, Executive Producer Wendy Jacobson assures that this is not the case. In an interview on the Official Marvel Podcast, Jacobson explained that the movie is designed to be accessible to all viewers, even those with no prior knowledge of the MCU.

I will say this: there’s no barrier to entry to see this movie. You don’t have to have seen any of the MCU films, you don’t have to see any X-Men films. […] My father who has never seen any of those films is going to love this movie. One of my best friends, who I grew up with, who exclusively watches rom-coms, and will tell you that her favorite movie of all time is ‘Beaches,’ she is going to love this movie. There is something for everyone here, and it is just pure delight. And I hope that people get to experience that.

If you haven’t seen the previous Deadpool and X-Men projects, there’s no need to worry.
