The legend has returned! Entertainment Weekly just released exclusive first look images on the upcoming Star Wars Disney+ Series Obi-Wan Kenobi, in which Ewan McGregor returns to reprise one of his most iconic roles as one of the most iconic Star Wars characters.
Obi-Wan Kenobi is one of the most known characters in the entire Star Wars saga. The character was portrayed by Alec Guinness in the original Star Wars trilogy. Guinness was nominated for the Academy Award for his portrayal of the character in the original Star Wars movie — A New Hope.
Ewan McGregor played the role of younger Obi-Wan Kenobi in George Lucas’ prequel trilogy between 1999 and 2005. In the prequel trilogy, we watched the path of Obi-Wan who started as a student to Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, and later he became a Jedi Master to young Anakin Skywalker, who later became the legendary villain Darth Vader.
Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith ended with Obi-Wan defeating Vader on planet Mustafar. After that, Anakin’s wife Padme gave birth to Luke and Leia before she died. Anakin took Luke to Tatooine and gave him to Luke’s family, promising that he’ll watch after him. Around 2 decades later, Obi-Wan was killed by Darth Vader, and after that, he turned into a Jedi ghost.
The upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series is set after the events of Revenge of the Sith, and before the events of A New Hope. That’s a pretty big gap in the timeline, so there are a lot of stories to be told. McGregor reprises the titular role and Hayden Christensen will reprise the role of Darth Vader he played in Revenge of the Sith. It will be interesting to see another encounter between the Master and the former student.
