‘Obsession’ Ending Explained: Do Anna and William Maintain Their Affair a Secret?

Welcome to the Ending Explained for Obsession, a new erotic thriller that has found its way to Netflix, and it is coming out this week. The series stars Richard Armitage, Charlie Murphy, Rish Shah, and Indira Varma. The series tells the story of a forbidden love between two characters: William and Anna. The two passionate lovers find themselves in quite a bit of a pickle. You see, William is married, and Anna is not just any woman from the streets. She is actually William’s son’s girlfriend. It is quite messy, but these two cannot get enough of each other.

The series is based on a novel, and with just four episodes, it is an example of what the standard should be for stories like this. There is no need to overextend the run of a story. Can you tell the story in four episodes? Maybe six? Then that is enough for your show. When series think they need to fulfill a quota of 8 or 10 episodes, the audience can feel it. The result is bad pacing and boring episodes, as nothing really is happening, and both audiences and the characters within the story are waiting for things to continue.

The following paragraphs contain spoilers for Obsession. Read at your own risk.

How Do Anna And William Meet Each Other?

The series doesn’t waste time; from the first seconds of the first episode, the series begins by establishing characters. We get to meet the Farrow family, composed of William, Ingrid, Jay, and Sally. The four seem like the perfect family, they are all healthy, quite successful, and they are all attractive. Actually, William might be one of the best surgeons in all of England. When we meet him, he separates twins born attached to each other. The surgery was a success, and William is congratulated for saving the babies’ lives.

We meet the rest of the family, and the episode focuses on William’s son, Jay. It seems like Jay is in love, and he is thinking about presenting her girlfriend to his parents. He is nervous. Everyone is quite surprised because it seems Jay doesn’t fall in love easily. He is very selective in matters like this. However, this girl has made him completely fall in love with her. Her name is Anna Barton, and everyone is excited to meet her. William is getting ready for a social call alone, but he does not enjoy this. He is forced to do it.

At the gathering, we see an annoying William socializing with colleagues and other members of high society. In the distance, among the crowd, William’s eyes connect with the ones belonging to a beautiful woman with short red hair and a mysterious and sensual gaze. They gaze at each other for quite a bit, then disengage. William goes to the bar, and there, the redhead says high. She introduces herself as Anna Barton. William knows that this is his son’s girlfriend, and Anna also knows this is her boyfriend’s father. They don’t seem to care about it, though.

There is a powerful connection between the two, and when Ingrid asks him if he saw Jay’s girlfriend as she was supposed to be at the party, William denies it. However, in the coming days, it is clear that William cannot stop thinking about Anna. It is as if she has placed a spell on him. The day to meet her as a family is getting closer and closer, and William is quite nervous. Jay is also nervous; they are both in love with this woman, and they don’t know it from each other. This can only end in one way. Bad.

Do Anna And William Maintain Their Affair A Secret?

The meeting day occurs, and these two cannot take their eyes off each other. The next day in his office, William receives a call from Anna. They set up a place and a time and meet each other for the first time in secret. This encounter leads, of course, to some passionate sex. They know it is wrong, but they don’t care. Anna tries to set up some rules, so they can keep doing it in secret and not be discovered. However, William begins receiving some strange messages from someone. It seems someone knows what they are doing.

Anna’s relationship with Jay keeps developing, and she asks for her hand in marriage. She says yes. This struck William, who was jealous of his son. Anna assures him that they can keep seeing each other after she gets married. The family meets Anna’s mother at the engagement party. Anna’s mother is clearly distraught, as she confuses Jay with Anton, Anna’s late brother. It seems there is some dark history between Anna and her dead brother, but she doesn’t develop further. Anna and William have sex at the party.

Jay is having second thoughts about the engagement. He feels Anna is holding something back and is not being open about it with him. Anna’s friend tells him that is just how Anna is. She won’t tell you anything unless she wants to. Jay shares his doubt with his father, who is clearly trying to scare Jay and convince him not to marry Anna. When Jay hears his father say something that Anna also says, he begins to suspect. He follows William, who leads him to the apartment, where he meets with Anna. Jay finds her father having sex with his fiancée.
