Few actors have had a year like Inde Navarrette, and the ‘Heat 2’ rumors surrounding her have become one of the most debated casting stories of 2026. The ‘Superman & Lois’ alum exploded into stardom as Nikki Freeman in Curry Barker’s ‘Obsession’, which Focus Features released on May 15.

The horror hit turned her into a genuine awards contender. ‘Obsession’ earned a 93% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, Navarrette picked up a Critics’ Choice Award, and Focus launched an awards campaign for her performance this fall.

That success quickly made her one of Hollywood’s hottest names. A Page Six report claimed she was on the shortlist for the role of Sharlene in Michael Mann’s ‘Heat 2′ but walked away to play Rogue in Marvel Studios’ ‘X-Men’ reboot, also passing on a $2.5 million offer for another horror movie.

The story spread fast online. Some fans questioned why she’d skip a chance to work with Mann, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Christian Bale, while others argued that a long-term franchise role like Rogue offered years of work.

The narrative was soon challenged. Executive producer Shane Salerno flatly denied that she was ever offered the part, calling the claim “simply untrue” in an exclusive interview with TheWrap, which reported she’d had a single meeting with Mann that never went further.

Now, Navarrette has addressed the rumors herself. In a video interview with Kyle Buchanan shared on social media, she explained that she auditioned for roughly 2 months and sent in multiple self-tapes for ‘Heat 2’.

Most importantly, she made clear that she never turned the movie down. Her account suggests the process went further than a single meeting, but it ultimately lines up with the core of Salerno’s denial: there was no offer for her to reject.

TheWrap also pointed out that her ‘X-Men’ co-star Adam Driver was in talks to play Wardell in ‘Heat 2’. That suggested the Marvel project wouldn’t necessarily have prevented her from joining Mann’s sequel anyway.

Navarrette’s Marvel casting was unveiled at Disney’s D23 event in August. She’ll play Rogue in Jake Schreier’s ‘X-Men’ reboot, set for May 5, 2028, alongside Sadie Sink, Kit Connor, Christopher Abbott, Samara Weaving, Maya Boyd, and Adam Driver as Mister Sinister.

Interestingly, Rogue wasn’t her first choice. Before the announcement, she told Variety’s ‘Up Next’ podcast that she had met with Schreier while hoping to land Mystique. The casting has sparked some debate among fans. Matt Jarbo of the Hollywood After Dark Podcast summed up her appeal by noting she has the one thing Hollywood desperately wants: heat.

Navarrette appears ready to embrace the challenge. Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, she made clear she is taking the responsibility of playing Anna Marie seriously and preparing from every angle.

Her momentum doesn’t stop with Marvel. She has already filmed a lead role in the horror film ‘Invertigo’, and her ‘Obsession’ character is even haunting guests at Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights in Orlando and Hollywood.

Meanwhile, Mann’s sequel continues moving forward without her. Production on the Amazon MGM Studios and United Artists film is scheduled to begin in November, with Odessa Young and María Cid reportedly eyeing key roles.

For Navarrette, the clarification closes the book on one of the summer’s most persistent Hollywood rumors. With Rogue on the horizon and awards buzz building, she’s clearly doing just fine.

Are you excited to see Inde Navarrette take on the role of Rogue in Marvel’s upcoming X-Men reboot?
