Olivia Munn Says She Refused a Seven-Figure NDA After ‘Traumatic’ Set Incident: ‘I just felt it was so wrong’

Olivia Munn recently opened up on Monica Lewinsky’s Reclaiming podcast about a difficult experience she faced on a movie set. While she did not reveal the film or specific details, she shared that the studio offered her a massive payout—worth millions—on the condition that she sign a nondisclosure agreement (NDA). However, she refused.

I had to file complaints with the studio, and there’s a lot of other little things that go along with it, but it got to this place where I was offered a lot of money,” Munn said “Seven figures to accept, I guess, their apology and them taking acknowledgement of it, but it came along with an NDA.

Despite the large sum, Munn didn’t feel comfortable signing the agreement. “Not that I ever would talk about it truly, because I wanted to move past it all. But I said I’m not signing an NDA, and they said I have to.”

The actress, known for speaking out on industry issues, explained that the situation happened during the early days of the #MeToo movement, a time when survivors were often criticized for signing NDAs. “I just felt it was so wrong,” she said. “This was that time period, and this was when people were targeting anyone who signed an NDA saying, ‘Oh, you only did it for the money,’ so I was afraid that my voice and speaking up would reverse any kind of validity to my voice.”

Munn also feared the studio might leak the NDA themselves to discredit her. After seeking legal advice, she walked out of the meeting without signing. “I remember feeling so proud when I walked out—so proud of myself,” she said.

Reflecting on her decision, Munn admitted she acted out of anger but stood by her choice. “I did not think about negotiating. I did not think about anything besides how disrespectful that was.

Munn has a history of calling out misconduct in Hollywood. In 2017, she accused director Brett Ratner of sexual harassment, claiming he exposed himself to her on the set of After the Sunset. She also spoke up in 2018 when she discovered that director Shane Black had cast a registered sex offender in The Predator, which led to the actor’s removal from the film.
