‘One Piece: God Valley’ Teaser Surpasses ‘Demon Slayer’ With Millions of Views

Anime movies have entered a new commercial era over the past year, one built around a formula that didn’t really exist at this scale before 2025. Rather than treating theatrical releases as side stories or non-canon detours, studios have started using them to adapt the actual, ongoing manga narrative, giving fans a reason they can’t get anywhere else to show up opening weekend.

That shift traces directly back to ‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba — The Movie: Infinity Castle,’ which used exactly this approach to become the highest-grossing anime film and highest-grossing Japanese film ever made worldwide, pulling in roughly $737 million on a modest $20 million budget. ‘Chainsaw Man: The Reze Arc’ followed a similar canon-first model later that year with strong results of its own, cementing the strategy as something other major franchises would eventually have to consider.

‘One Piece’ has now officially joined that group. During the One Piece Day 2026 convention, Toei Animation confirmed ‘One Piece Film: God Valley,’ set for a summer 2027 release in Japan, marking the franchise’s first-ever canon theatrical film in the show’s nearly thirty-year history. A second film, ‘One Piece Film: Baad,’ was also confirmed for 2029.

The reaction to that announcement has been immediate and intense. According to figures circulating online, the newly revealed ‘God Valley’ teaser has already crossed 21.8 million views on X, reportedly surpassing the 21.4 million views previously reached by the trailer for ‘Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle’ itself, one of the most successful anime marketing campaigns in recent memory.

That comparison carries real weight given what ‘Infinity Castle’ went on to accomplish commercially. For a teaser with no actual animated footage, according to multiple outlets covering the reveal, to reportedly outpace the viewership of a trailer tied to the genre’s current box office record-holder speaks to just how much anticipation has built around ‘God Valley’ specifically.

Part of that anticipation comes down to the story itself. ‘God Valley’ adapts the God Valley Incident, one of the most significant flashback events in ‘One Piece’ history, depicting a legendary clash between Gol D. Roger’s crew, Monkey D. Garp, and the pirate crew Rocks roughly 38 years before the series’ present-day events. The manga only recently revealed the full details of that incident during its Loki flashback, spanning chapters 1159 through 1166, making the timing of a dedicated film adaptation feel especially urgent for longtime readers.

Unlike past ‘One Piece’ films, which have traditionally existed outside the manga’s core continuity, ‘God Valley’ breaks that pattern entirely by adapting canon material directly tied to the ongoing Elbaph Arc. That distinction places it in the same category as ‘Infinity Castle’ and ‘Reze Arc,’ films built around genuine narrative urgency rather than standalone side adventures.

With the teaser offering only a title reveal and no actual footage, ‘God Valley’ still appears to be in its earliest stages of production, leaving plenty of details about director, animation staff, and voice cast still to be announced. Even so, the sheer online response to a footage-free teaser suggests ‘One Piece’ may be positioning itself to challenge ‘Demon Slayer’ for the title of biggest anime theatrical release yet, well over a year before the film even hits Japanese theaters.
