At one point, Big Mom simply powered herself up to defeat Kid and Law
In order for you to fully understand what happened, here is a recap of the fight up to Episode 1056; we won’t be revealing any additional details here because that is not the topic of this article and because it would contain too many spoilers. As soon as Big Mom’s homies are removed from her, Kid attacks her with his Punk Pistol, but the Yonko responds by giving him a right punch to the face. Kid tries to stop him, takes Yonko’s arm while grinning at her, and uses his Repel to launch Big Mom into the air. Law then uses his Tact to toss a boulder at the Yonko, causing her to tumble into the river.
Once Big Mom is saved by Prometheus shortly after, he gets up and decides to go battle her with Killer. He then proceeds to the edge of the roof of Onigashima’s skull where Big Mom collapsed with a massive clump of metal behind him, and informs the other Supernovae that their intention was to divide the two Emperors, which he believes was accomplished.
Then, he is perplexed by the peculiar shape that the clouds above the levitating island have adopted. Kid is perplexed as to how Big Mom can fly while Zeus has been captured when she returns in flight. He then blocks Big Mom’s initial Killer strike, but is hit by a second Fulgora blast that causes the two Supernovae to be projected onto the fortress’ second floor.

They encounter Basil Hawkins, who assaults them after noticing that Big Mom doesn’t appear to be pursuing them. The two comrades sidestep the assault and accuse Hawkins of betraying them. Following a brief discussion, Killer decides to remain and battle Hawkins while Kid pursues Big Mom. As soon as he comes, he thwarts a Yonko attack that was aimed at Nami, Usopp, and Tama.
Kid then tells the Straw Hats that it is up to him to defeat Big Mom by using his metal arm to bash her head to the ground. Law suddenly shows up and, in spite of Kid’s resistance, offers him a partnership in the fight against Big Mom. Kid and Law decide to unleash their awakened Devil Fruit skills against the Emperor out of need after taking Big Mom’s Mother Raid and Ikoku strikes.
Law deploys a barrier called ROOM around his sword as Big Mom slams Kid toward the music hall, allowing him to pierce Big Mom’s body and unleash a shockwave that kills the Emperor. Kid then utilizes his newly discovered talent to transform Big Mom into a magnet, drawing a significant portion of the fortress building towards her and crushing her from every side.
Yet, it wasn’t enough to kill Big Mom. Now really furious, the Emperor fashioned new Homies from the steel beams that had previously crushed her, using several Kaido servants’ souls to power his unique Homies. Big Mom challenged the Worst Generation Pirates to try and bring her down after realizing the strength of Kid and Law and giving up a year of her own life to become bigger and more powerful. And this is where our recap of the battle, both before and in Episode 1056, stops. What happens next? Well, you’ll have to wait until next week’s episode to find out, as we are now going to proceed with explaining what Big Mom did to make herself so much stronger.
The Soru Soru no Mi is a horrifyingly dangerous Devil Fruit
The fact that Bog Mom could consume part of her own lifespan – a year, in this case – is the result of her Devil Fruit, the Soru Soru no Mi. The Soru Soru no Mi is an extremely powerful Devil Fruit. We shall now explain some of its powers, specifically those related to the ability she manifested in this fight.
The power of this fruit to manipulate the soul, as demonstrated by Charlotte Linlin, lies in the extraction and manifestation of fragments of human souls as a tangible, viscous, light-colored substance whose shape depends on the amount taken, without the need for If it has to make physical contact, once manifested, the user can grab it and pull it out of the body. This is equal to stealing a target’s lifespan, the amount of which is determined by the consumer, which can be exact within seconds or affect tens of years. Therefore, if it is over-mined, the victim can die in one hit (the highest amount yet shown has been fifty years, although it is unknown if there is any limit).
However, extracting a portion of the soul does not appear to be painful for the victim, at least when extracting small portions of the lifespan. The consumer can also extract his own life years to be exchanged for a greater force. In this altered state, its user increases extremely in size, as well as its eyes begin to burn. Second, the user possesses the ability to insert portions of human souls into animals and objects to “humanize” them and, in the case of objects, bring them to life in the first place.
The targets (which in Big Mom’s case are called “homies”) will be given human intelligence and will transform to resemble humans; very frequently, objects also develop human semblances, while animals will maintain their original appearance to a greater or lesser degree. If a vivre card is imbued with a soul, it will not become anthropomorphic (apparently due to its nature of being connected to the affected person’s life force), but it will radiate a more or less powerful aura depending on the strength of the soul in which it is impregnated.
This seems to be only perceptible by objects and animals with a human soul. In addition to taking the souls of others, the user can also use their own soul and manifest it outwardly (in Big Mom’s case, these are called “Incarnations”), which appear as large anthropomorphic dark blobs, which, by extension, can also extract shards of the soul of the people as well. The power to insert fragments of human souls cannot be used on humans or corpses. Also, the victim must be somewhat scared of the user or of death itself in order for the user to take the lifespan from him; if the target has no fear of the user or death itself, the powers will have no effect on them. Similarly, if homies experience extreme fear, they die and wither away instantly.
