One Piece: Is Katakuri a Fishman?

As far as villains go, Charlotte Katakuri is undoubtedly one of the best and most popular One Piece villains. Although he is Luffy’s enemy, their fight is so full of sincere rivalry that people actually grow to respect him as a character. This is why he is so popular among the fandom and why we have talked about him more than once. In this article, we are also going to talk about Katakuri, this time focusing on his appearance in the series. Due to his specific teeth, some fans think that Katakuri might be a Fishman, at least partially. In this article, we are going to explain why that theory is not correct.

The theory about Katakuri being a Fishman

Unlike many other theories, this one is relatively easy to explain so we don’t have any long theories for you. The issue probably came from this Reddit post, where user Khan_the_Duck asked the following question:

Everybody made a big deal out of jack’s shark teeth once they were revealed (even before it was shown he was surviving underwater), saying he’s half fishman. Why nobody is pointing out katakuri’s same set of teeth? By the way they also stay hidden normally. He also uses a trident

As you can see, the whole theory is based on Katakuri’s appearance or, to be more precise, his teeth. Sure, Katakuri does have a set of very specific teeth and we know that such teeth are a characteristic of some members of the Fishmen race, as we have seen throughout the series. But, does that mean that Katakuti could, indeed, be a member of the Fishmen race?

In order to provide you with an answer to this question, we are going to tell you the story of Katakuri’s lineage, and once you read that, the answer will become quite obvious and self-evident to you.

No, Katakuri is not related to the Fishmen

Charlotte Katakuri is arguably the most well-known and most popular of Big Mom’s children. This is largely because of his rivalry with Luffy and their epic battle, which demonstrated that both of them are honorable fighters who respect their opponents and strive to bring out the best in each other. Nevertheless, Charlotte Katakuri is only one of many many children as far as his own family is concerned. As you can see:

And while some of Big Mom’s children know their fathers, many of them don’t, and Katakuri is one of them. This fact, combined with the theory we’ve shown above, had fans thinking that Katakuri might, indeed, be a Fishman, as his father could have been one, potentially. But that is simply not true.

First of all, Katakuri doesn’t have the physiology of a Fishman, and save for the teeth, there is nothing to indicate that he could be one. We mean, even the teeth are not a clear giveaway, but they had some fans confused. Secondly, Daifuku and Oven are triplets with Katakuri, which means that the three of them have the same father. Since neither of them looks like a Fishman, we can definitely conclude that the teeth are just a coincidence and that Katakuri is not a Fishman, not even partially.
