One Piece: Is Koala Sabo’s Girlfriend? Love Interest Explained!

There are numerous stories about various types of relationships in One Piece, and this article will be one of those stories, as we will talk about two popular characters from the series and explain the very nature of their relationship. We will discuss two secondary characters who are both important and very popular within the fandom. They are Sabo and Koala, two members of the Revolutionary Army and two very good friends. But is there something more there, potentially? Keep reading to find out, as this article will reveal everything you need to know about this ship from One Piece.

Is Koala in love with Sabo?

By the time the Dressrosa arc gets farther along, Sabo and Koala are on very good terms and can be considered very close friends. The idea of Sabo leaving the Revolutionary Army with his memories restored, knowing about his past with Ace and Luffy, and his remorse at being unable to take part in the Battle of Marineford caused her to become extremely distressed and start crying.

Koala showed some affection to Sabo by expressing her happiness for him upon his eventual reunion with his sworn brother and by attempting to soothe him from his lingering remorse over not saving Ace. She was present at his battle at the Corrida Colosseum as well. But she is always upset with him for his self-centeredness and disregarding his obligations. For example, because of the Marines’ fury, she chastised him for running the risk of war when he began fighting Fujitora.

As you can see, there is a lot going on between Koala and Sabo, especially when you consider Koala’s perspective. Sabo has always been an adventurer with a personality similar to Luffy’s and Ace’s, which is somewhat different from Koala’s, who is active but not as much. And while this is, by no means, a bad thing or anything, it is a fact that has to be considered when answering the question – is Koala in love with Sabo?

Romantic relationships are rarely that direct in shonen works, so don’t expect anything explicit, but it has been implied throughout the series that Koala sees Sabo as more than just a friend and when the whole story is over, we wouldn’t be too surprised to see the two of them ending up as a couple in the epilogue of the main story.

Who is Sabo’s love interest?

But what about Sabo? Well, we know that he is similar to his two sworn brothers, Luffy and Ace, in terms of personality, which makes sense, knowing their shared history. This means that romance is not at the top of his list of priorities and that he is focused on his goals as a Revolutionary Army member, which also makes a lot of sense, knowing what kind of role Oda gave Sabo in the series. But, like Luffy, Sabo never lost his inner self along the way.

He is still caring and will do anything it takes to save those he cares about, which is another similarity he has with Luffy. So, where does Koala fit in there? Well, it is known that Sabo cares for Koala, and while they sometimes have a sibling relationship, he doesn’t view her as a sister.

Based on what we’ve seen – what he allows her, how he cares about her – we think that Sabo likes Koala and that the feelings are mutual. If Sabo eventually ends up with anyone in the series’ epilogue, we don’t see him ending up with anyone other than Koala, so we do think that there is something here.
