Joe Manganiello and Sofía Vergara were once one of Hollywood’s most glamorous couples. The ‘True Blood’ actor and the ‘Modern Family’ star married in November 2015, announced their separation in July 2023, and finalized their divorce in February 2024.

Now, their split is back in the headlines thanks to Manganiello’s new memoir, ‘Bloodlines’, released on October 13. The book details his years-long battle with a serious autoimmune disorder that he has described as near-fatal and inherited through generations of his family.

As excerpts from the memoir circulated, a social media post added fuel to the fire. Vergara’s son, Manolo Gonzalez Vergara, 35, shared an Instagram Story featuring a chart that compared a “good man” with a “narcissistic man.”

His caption warned that a narcissist will resent the people who help them, will never be satisfied, and will try to cast others as the villain. Vergara, 54, reposted it to her own Instagram Story with a clapping hands emoji. Manolo’s original post has since been deleted. Neither Vergara nor her son has said the post was directed at Manganiello.

Manganiello addressed the post during an appearance on ‘CBS Mornings‘ on Monday, October 12. When host Gayle King brought up the post and Vergara’s apparent endorsement of it, the 49-year-old suggested that anyone weighing in should read his book first.

He explained that the memoir isn’t about labeling anyone, but about the suffering he endured during his illness. Manganiello added that the book is ultimately a story of survival and hope.

His measured response has been described by some outlets as dancing around the implication. Rather than attacking Vergara directly, he focused on reframing the purpose of his memoir.

In ‘Bloodlines’, Manganiello writes that his marriage became emotionally distant as his health declined. He alleges that Vergara refused to hug him even when he asked and that she mocked his pet Chihuahua.

He has also accused her of ridiculing him during his health battle. These allegations reflect Manganiello’s account, and Vergara has not publicly responded to the specific claims.

Manganiello has stressed that writing about the divorce was not the main goal of the book. He has said it was necessary to show his path toward physical and mental healing, and that he chose to tell the truth even when it was painful. Vergara has previously said that differing views about having children contributed to the breakup. Manganiello has disputed that explanation.

In the memoir, he writes that his autoimmune disorder ultimately led him to decide not to pursue fatherhood. That account adds a new layer to one of the most publicized aspects of their divorce. Both stars have since moved on. Manganiello is now engaged to Caitlin O’Connor, while Vergara has continued to focus on her career.

Still, the memoir’s release ensures that their relationship will remain a topic of conversation for some time. With fans weighing in on both sides, the debate shows no sign of slowing down.

For now, Manganiello appears determined to keep the focus on his health journey. His comments suggest he hopes readers will see the book as a story of personal recovery rather than a takedown. Whether Vergara will respond more directly remains to be seen. Until then, fans will have to judge the story for themselves.

What do you think of Joe Manganiello’s response to the “narcissist” post shared by Sofía Vergara’s son?
