Orlando Bloom Responds to Keira Knightley’s ‘Pirates’ Criticism After Her Therapy Claims

Keira Knightley became famous worldwide for playing Elizabeth Swann in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl when she was 17. Though her experience was not always easy, she returned to the role in four more films.
Knightley, who started acting young, faced abuse, and subsequently revealed she needed years of therapy following the movies that launched her into stardom.
Orlando Bloom responded to Knightley’s criticism of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, where she mentioned needing years of therapy after working on them. Bloom, who played Will Turner in the films, said it feels like a different lifetime now. He expressed understanding of Keira’s feelings and praised her for doing “wonderful things,” while also noting that he has many positive takeaways from the experience.
It was such a huge moment in time that is almost like… it feels almost like another lifetime now, but it certainly was unique and, you know, I’m always grateful. But I definitely understand where Keira was coming from, and she does wonderful things.… I have a lot of positive takeaways.
Despite the franchise’s last installment in 2017, it is still active with two upcoming films in development. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed a reboot written by Jeff Nathanson and a Margot Robbie-led project written by Christina Hodson.
Bloom is aware of the reboot and expressed interest in seeing it, praising Bruckheimer’s work. He hasn’t ruled out returning to the franchise himself, stating “never say never” and acknowledging his respect for the experience. Bloom is happy to have been part of a project that continues to stand the test of time.
