Orlando Bloom Says He’s Ready for More ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ if the Band Gets Back Together: “There’s been talk”
Orlando Bloom says he’s still open to returning to the Pirates of the Caribbean series, but right now, nothing’s confirmed. Bloom, who played Will Turner in four of the films from 2003 to 2017, last showed up in Dead Men Tell No Tales with Johnny Depp and Keira Knightley.
That movie had a post-credits scene that teased a possible comeback for the original trio, Will, Elizabeth, and Captain Jack Sparrow, against Davy Jones, played by Bill Nighy. But since then, things have gone quiet.
Talking on the UK show This Morning, Bloom said there’s been some movement behind the scenes, but no real updates yet. “There’s been all kinds of things,” he said. “Who knows? There’s been talk [of a sixth movie]. I can’t say anything at the moment, because I really don’t know.” He also said, “I think they’re trying to work out what it would all look like. I, personally, think it would be great to get the band back together. I think that would be great. But there are always different ideas, so we’ll see where it lands.”
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has said that Disney is working on two different Pirates movies right now. One is a reboot written by Jeff Nathanson, who worked on Dead Men Tell No Tales and Mufasa: The Lion King. The other is a spin-off that would star Margot Robbie and is written by Christina Hodson, who wrote Birds of Prey. Bruckheimer told ComicBook that a reboot would be easier to make because they wouldn’t need to wait on certain actors.
The last movie focused on Will and Elizabeth’s son, Henry Turner, played by Brenton Thwaites, and Captain Barbossa’s daughter, Carina, played by Kaya Scodelario. That might have been the start of a new direction, but nothing has been confirmed since.
Johnny Depp, who played Jack Sparrow in all five films, was dropped from the sixth movie after his legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard. During his 2022 defamation trial, Depp said that Disney cut him out of the project after Heard’s 2018 op-ed.
Depp won the lawsuit, and in 2024, Bruckheimer said in an interview that he’d still want Depp back. “It’s a reboot, but if it was up to me, he would be in it.”
For now, there’s no official word on when or if Pirates of the Caribbean 6 will happen, or who might be in it. But it sounds like the door is still open, at least for some of the old crew.
