Paris-based production company Haut et Court and London-based Good Chaos have officially secured the film rights to ‘Paris-Hollywood,’ the debut novel by writer and critic Cécile Mury. The two companies plan to bring the novel to the big screen as a feature film, blending the romantic charm of both French and English-language romantic comedies.

The novel follows the love story between a French journalist and an English-speaking movie star, exploring themes of romance, cultural differences, and self-discovery. Given its unique take on love and relationships, the book has already gained significant attention in the literary world.

Mike Goodridge, CEO of Good Chaos, expressed his excitement about the adaptation, calling ‘Paris-Hollywood’ “a charming and winning read” that intelligently examines “the nature of love and the limits we put on ourselves before falling in love.” He added, “We are thrilled to collaborate with our friends at Haut et Court to create a classic European rom-com.”

The novel generated significant buzz at the Frankfurt Book Fair, where publishers from six different countries quickly acquired the publishing rights. This strong early reception highlights the story’s widespread appeal and potential for success as a film.

Caroline Benjo, Co-CEO of Haut et Court, echoed Goodridge’s enthusiasm, saying, “We are absolutely thrilled to have teamed up with Good Chaos to bring this delightful rom-com to the screen. The story plays with the conventions of the genre but adds a special ‘je ne sais quoi et presque rien.’ As soon as we read the book, we knew we had to secure the rights. Its tone is truly unique and reminds us of the best English romantic comedies, but with a French twist.”

Haut et Court is well known for producing high-quality, award-winning films and series. Some of their most notable projects include Laurent Cantet’s ‘The Class,’ which won the Palme d’Or at Cannes in 2008, Yorgos Lanthimos’ ‘The Lobster, ‘which received the Jury Prize at Cannes in 2015, and the acclaimed TV series ‘The Returned,’ which won an International Emmy for Best TV Series in 2013.

Their upcoming projects include ‘Sukkwan Island,’ directed by Vladimir de Fontenay, which has been selected for Sundance 2025, and Case 137, the highly anticipated new film by Dominik Moll, following his César-winning ‘The Night of the 12th.’

Good Chaos, led by Mike Goodridge, also boasts an impressive lineup of films. Their upcoming releases include ‘The Ballad of a Small Player,’ directed by Edward Berger and starring Colin Farrell and Tilda Swinton, as well as ‘Orphan,’ a historical epic set in 1957 Budapest by Laszlo Nemes. Past projects include ‘Touch’ by Baltasar Kormákur, ‘Santosh’ by Sandhya Suri, and ‘Triangle of Sadness,’ which won the Palme d’Or in 2022.

With the combined expertise of Haut et Court and Good Chaos,’ Paris-Hollywood’ is poised to become a standout romantic comedy that bridges the charm of French and English cinema. While details about casting and production schedules have yet to be announced, excitement is already building for this fresh take on love, fame, and cultural differences.
