Patty Jenkins’ Star Wars Movie Delayed

Last December, Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins was hired to direct the upcoming Star Wars movie Rogue Squadron, set for release in December 2023. Since then, Warner Bros. also greenlit Wonder Woman 3 with Jenkins returning as writer and director.

And on top of all that, Jenkins is still set to direct the upcoming movie Cleopatra starring Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot.

Obviously, that’s too much on Jenkins’ plate right now, so Disney decided to delay the production of Rogue Squadron indefinitely, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. It is unclear how will delaying the production influence the release date.

Gal Gadot revealed last week that Wonder Woman 3 script is being written now, and the production was set to start after Jenkins finishes production of Rogue Squadron. But now when the production start has been delayed, that probably puts Wonder Woman 3 as Jenkins’ priority now. It is unknown in what phase of development Cleopatra is since it was announced in October 2020.

Rogue Squadron official description:

The next Star Wars feature film will be Rogue Squadron — directed by Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman franchise). The story will introduce a new generation of starfighter pilots as they earn their wings and risk their lives in a boundary-pushing, high-speed thrill-ride, and move the saga into the future era of the galaxy.

Last year, when Rogue Squadron was announced, Jenkins said:

We’re doing something original with great influence from the games and the books. There’s a lot of things being acknowledged and understood about the greatness of all of those things, but yes, it’s an original story and I’m so psyched to do it.”

There is one more Star Wars movie in development – an untitled movie which is set to be directed by Taika Waititi. The movie has no title or release date yet, but it is expected that Waititi will start the work on the film as soon as he finishes Thor: Love and Thunder, which is currently in production.
