Penguin: Colin Farrell Will Officially Reprise The Role In ‘The Batman’ Spin-Off Series

Matt Reeves’ The Batman is closing in. The movie is set to open in March 2022, and it’s set to unleash more of that part of the DC Universe in which Robert Pattinson is the Caped Crusader. Two sequels are already planned for the movie, and two spin-off shows on HBOMax. One of those shows is centered on The Penguin, a notorious villain who will be played by Colin Farrell in Matt Reeves’ movie.

HBOMax is developing a series about Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot, the notorious crime boss and one of the most known villains from Batman’s rogue gallery. Colin Farrell signed to play the character in The Batman movie, and now he’s officially set to reprise the role in the spin-off series. Confirmed by Variety.

Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot, also known as The Penguin is a crime boss and a supervillain from Gotham, known as the short man who’s always carrying an umbrella that can be used as a weapon. The character was created by Batman creators Bob Kane and Bill Finger, and the character’s first appearance in comic books was in December 1941.

Since then, Penguin became one of the most known Batman villains. In Tim Burton’s movie Batman Returns, the character was played by Danny DeVito. Paul Williams voiced the character in Batman: The Animated Series. Nolan North voiced the character in popular Batman: Arkham video games. Robin Lord Taylor played the young Penguin in the Gotham TV series. All the mentioned portrayals of the character were praised by critics and the audience. Now let’s see if Colin Farrell can do the same.

Directed by Matt Reeves, and starring Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, The Batman movie is set to hit theaters on March 4, 2022. Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, Peter Sarsgaard, and Andy Serkis also star. HBOMax series Penguin is in development.
