With less than two weeks until the release of Agatha All Along, the upcoming MCU series centered on Agatha Harkness, fans are eagerly anticipating its debut. After being freed from her prison by a spell from the Scarlet Witch, Agatha returns without her powers. To reclaim her strength, she must assemble a makeshift coven of witches willing to follow the Witches Road.

The show boasts an intriguing premise and an impressive cast. Kathryn Hahn stars as Agatha Harkness, with Joe Locke as Billy Kaplan and Sasheer Zamata as Jennifer Kale. Ali Ahn will portray Alice Wu-Gulliver, while Maria Dizzia, Paul Adelstein, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, and Okwui Okpokwasili are cast in roles yet to be announced. Additionally, Debra Jo Rupp will appear as Sharon Davis, Patti LuPone as Lilia Calderu, and Aubrey Plaza as Rio Vidal/Green Witch.

The show is currently undergoing an extensive marketing campaign, and Aubrey Plaza, who plays Rio Vidal, recently shared insights about her character’s relationship with Agatha in the series:

I can’t say much, but obviously my character and Kathryn’s character have a really long history, that’s very complicated and charged and all the things. Buckle up.

This has led many fans to speculate whether the two witches had a past relationship that ended because of something terrible Agatha might have done to gain power.

Kathryn Hahn also confirmed this “charged” dynamic in an interview with TV Line:

it felt super-charged every time we were doing any scenes together, which was thrilling.

If it turns out that the two were indeed former lovers, they will join Joe Locke’s character as another example of queer representation in the MCU.

Agatha All Along premieres on Disney+ on September 18, 2024. Share your thoughts in the comments below!
