‘Power Book III: Raising Kanan’ Season 3: Potential Release Date, Cast & More
When Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson first portrayed Kanan Stark in the hit crime drama series Power, I don’t believe many thought it could blossom into such an amazing show and such an ever-expanding cinematic universe. Now, a prequel show about Kanan’s early life is on the brink of arrival, so fans wonder – when is Power Book 3: Raising Kanan Season 3 coming out?
Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 3 doesn’t have a release date at the time of writing this article. However, fans can rest easy knowing that it’s certainly coming, as the show was renewed right before Season 2 premiered. If the third season follows the trend so far, it’ll arrive in the second half of 2023.
Take that with a grain of salt, though, as no official release date has been confirmed – we’re merely taking an educated guess. We do know some other crucial pieces of information, such as the cast, potential plot, etc. Keep reading to find out everything there is to know about Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 3 so far.
What is Power Book III: Raising Kanan about?
Power Book III: Raising Kanan is a crime drama series serving as a prequel to the STARZ hit series called Power, which aired for six seasons from 2014-2020. Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson portrayed Kanan Stark in that series for over 40 episodes.
Now, Power Book III: Raising Kanan serves as a prequel show in the expanding ‘Power’ universe, of which 50 Cent is an executive producer. It tells the story of the early years of Kanan’s life – namely, his mother trying to raise him in the 1990s in Queens, New York.
Motherhood is never an easy job – especially for somebody like Raquel Thomas, who balances between raising Kanan and being a drug lord, defending her territory. The show was highly successful, leading to a solid 7.6/10 rating on IMDb.
Is Power Book III: Raising Kanan getting a third season?
Seeing how successful the show is so far, it’s only natural that we expect a third season to happen sooner rather than later. Yet, no official release date has been set, which led fans to wonder if Power Book III: Raising Kanan is getting a Season 3 after all.
You can all take a sigh of relief, as the show is certainly coming back for at least one more season. The show’s renewal for Season 3 was confirmed just before Season 2 premiered. Meaning, Season 1 was successful enough that the producers immediately pulled the trigger on a third season.
It comes as no surprise because 50 Cent is the executive producer. He portrayed the character of Kanan Stark, now portrayed by the younger but potentially even more talented actor Mekai Curtis.
Additionally, Season 2 ended on a high note, with many loose ends still left to tie up in Season 3.
Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 3 release date
No official release date has been given for Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 3 – it was only confirmed that it was coming. The only thing we can do is speculate when the show’s third season will arrive.
We know that the first season premiered in July 2021, and the second season came 13 months later, in August 2022. Assuming the third season will come out in that ballpark (12-14 months), we can expect Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 3 to arrive somewhere in August-October 2023.
We won’t know for sure until we get an official release date.
Power Book III: Raising Kanan cast & crew
The show was immediately renewed, so we don’t see a reason why most of the main cast and crew members wouldn’t return in Season 3.
We expect Mekai Curtis to continue portraying Kanan Stark while Patina Miller will play Raquel Thomas, his mother. Malcolm M. Mays plays Lou-Lou, while Joey Bada$$ will likely continue playing Unique. LaVerne Jukebox Ganner is played by Hailey Kilgore, while London Brown will take on the role of Marvin Thomas once again.
The series has had a number of directors throughout the first two seasons, including Rob Hardy, Eif Rivera, Hernan Otano, Lisa Leone, Bart Wenrich, and others. Dylan C. Brown and Nina Manni were the most prolific staff writers, but Sascha Penn is the creator and showrunner of Power Book III: Raising Kanan. The show was based on ‘Power,’ created by Courtney A. Kemp.

Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 3 potential plot
WARNING: Potential spoilers for Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 1-2 ahead. If you haven’t watched the show yet, do not read the following section.
Let’s dab into some educated speculation once again to try and figure out what Season 3 of Raising Kanan could be about. Naturally, the story from Season 2’s ending will continue, where Unique saved Raquel’s life despite having an odd rivalry-turning-friendly relationship.
The two have a nice chemistry going, and we’d be amazed if the show stopped following that trail in the upcoming season. Especially if we consider the fact that the showrunner, Sascha Penn, actually talked about the matter with Variety and stated that not only could we see Raquel and Unique continuing to progress – we can’t rule out the relationship turning romantic:
“She [Raquel] doesn’t have a lot of confidants. On a certain level, Unique provides that in ways that some of these other characters can’t.
I wouldn’t rule it out [Raquel and Unique turning romantic]. You know, because who knows? In the finale, Unique sort of presses up on Raq. It does feel romantic, and I think the question is whether that’s something that feels reciprocated.”
We’ll watch Raquel rebuilding her empire while Kanan likely takes a step forward into a more significant role in the family business. We’ll just have to wait and find out when Season 3 actually premieres.
