The world of Pokémon has been a growing phenomenon since 1996, when the first pair of video games came out in stores. There are almost 900 individual Pokémon identified by the PokéDex and in this article, we are going to tell you everything you need to know about one of them – Raichu. Raichu is a pure Electric-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I of the core game series. It evolves from Pikachu when exposed to a Thunder Stone. In Alola, Raichu has a dual-type Electric/Psychic regional form. It evolves from Pikachu when exposed to a Thunder Stone.

In this article, we are going to tell you all the information you’ll need if you want to breed a Raichu in any of the games. We’re going to focus on both the core games, as well as other popular video games based on the Pokémon franchise.

Best moveset

In the Pokémon GO videogame, the best moves for your Raichu are Volt Switch and Wild Charge if you’re battling Pokémon in Gyms. Namely, this moveset gives you the highest total DPS and is, likewise, the best moveset for PVP battles. The official description for Volt Switch reveals the following: “After making its attack, the user rushes back to switch places with a party Pokémon in waiting”; as for Wild Charge, the attack is described as follows: “The user shrouds itself in electricity and smashes into its target. This also damages the user a little.”

Other moves that Raichu can learn across other games are:

  • Bold indicates a move that gets STAB when used by Raichu
  • Italic indicates a move that gets STAB only when used by an evolution of Raichu
  • × indicates a move that cannot be used in Generation VIII

Raichu item guide

The best item you can give to your Raichu in the more recent games is the Life Orb (An item to be held by a Pokémon. It boosts the power of moves but at the cost of some HP on each hit.), which will significantly boost its attack power. Another good item you can give it is Focus Sash (An item to be held by a Pokémon. If the holder has full HP, it will endure a potential KO attack with 1 HP. The item then disappears.).
