‘Reacher’, ‘Neagley’ and ‘Lioness’ Just Handed Paramount TV Studios a Streaming Knockout
When it comes to action-heavy streaming hits, few studios are having a better autumn than Paramount TV Studios. The company behind some of television’s toughest heroes has been quietly stacking up wins across multiple platforms, and its September streaming chart performance is the clearest proof yet.
Much of that momentum began in the summer. ‘Reacher’ Season 4 premiered on August 12, and over its first 6 weeks it racked up 5.8 billion minutes, with 8.3 billion minutes across the whole series. Meanwhile, over on Paramount+, ‘Lioness’ rolled out its third season weekly from August 2 through September 20.
Now the full September numbers are in, and they paint a remarkable picture. According to Nielsen data reported by Variety, Paramount TV Studios claimed 3 of the 4 most-streamed original series of the month, with ‘Reacher’ finishing at No. 1 and its spinoff ‘Neagley’ tied for third with ‘Lioness’.
Alan Ritchson’s hulking drifter led the pack with 4.6 billion minutes viewed, based on Nielsen’s ratings for viewers aged 2 and up between September 1 and 30. ‘Neagley’ pulled in 3.3 billion minutes for the month, and ‘Lioness’ matched that total exactly.
What makes the result even more striking is that these shows live on different services. ‘Reacher’ and ‘Neagley’ are co-produced with Amazon MGM Studios for Prime Video, while ‘Lioness’, starring Zoe Saldaña, comes from Paramount TV Studios and 101 Studios, with Taylor Sheridan among its executive producers.

The biggest story within the story might be ‘Neagley’. Maria Sten’s spinoff dropped all 8 episodes on September 16, the same day the ‘Reacher’ Season 4 finale arrived, creating a perfect handoff from one series to the next.

The gamble paid off immediately. In its premiere week, ‘Neagley’ drew 1.78 billion minutes, nearly matching the 1.84 billion minutes ‘Reacher’ posted for its own series debut in 2022. It even knocked its parent show off the top spot for the week of September 14 to 20.
Amazon’s internal figures tell a similar tale. The streamer says Season 1 reached 40 million viewers globally in its first 13 days, ranking as the No. 4 most-viewed series debut of any original in Prime Video history. Notably, 52% of that viewership came from outside the U.S., with the U.K., Germany and Brazil leading international interest.

For industry watchers, the September chart also offers a neat case study in how release strategies can coexist. ‘Neagley’ went the full binge route, ‘Lioness’ stuck with one episode per week, and ‘Reacher’ blended a 3-episode premiere with weekly drops leading up to the spinoff’s debut.

‘Lioness’ had a particularly strong close to its run, wrapping Season 3 on September 20 after a stretch that included its first-ever billion-minute week. For a series built on Sheridan’s signature grit, it is a sign that appointment viewing still has teeth.
Unsurprisingly, Prime Video isn’t letting the momentum go to waste. ‘Neagley’ was renewed for a second season on October 1, while ‘Reacher’ already holds an early Season 6 renewal even as Season 5 is in production.

The spinoff keeps the world tightly connected, too. Sten’s Frances Neagley is a Chicago private investigator and Jack Reacher’s former protégé from the Army’s 110th Special Investigations Unit, and Ritchson pops in as a guest star. Nick Santora serves as showrunner on ‘Reacher’ and co-runs ‘Neagley’ alongside Nicholas Wootton.

The good news hasn’t stopped at streaming either. Paramount TV Studios’ CBS drama ‘Marshals’ launched its second season on October 4 as the week’s No. 1 entertainment series across broadcast and streaming, extending what is shaping up to be a banner fall for the studio. With a growing ‘Reacher’ universe and a Sheridan-backed hit pulling equal weight, Paramount TV Studios has found a formula audiences clearly can’t get enough of.
