Reports Shed Light on a Big Plot Twist in ‘Thunderbolts*’: “They’ve Been Set Up”

‘Thunderbolts*’ is one of several highly anticipated projects set for release in 2025. While it may not be generating as much buzz as the ‘Fantastic Four’ reboot or ‘Captain America: Brave New World,’ the rumors suggest it has the potential to launch an exciting new franchise.

This film will introduce a new team to the MCU, akin to DC’s Suicide Squad, and it seems their stories will follow similar patterns.

According to notable scooper and leaker Daniel Richtman, Yelena, US Agent, Ghost, and Taskmaster are sent by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine to eliminate a target in a vault. Upon realizing they have been set up to die on this mission, they unite to take down their boss.

The target they’ve been sent to eliminate in the vault is likely Sentry. A few weeks ago, Florence Pugh shared a video from the set, and online chatter suggests the team was filming a vault scene where Sentry would be discovered. It appears Valentina planned for Sentry to swiftly eliminate the team.

Recently, we’ve reported that the movie will introduce the OXE Group, the world’s largest holding company, led by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, who serves as Chairman. Valentina is also a member of the Kratos Club, a group of influential individuals aiming to ensure their agenda is executed despite any obstacles. While the exact nature of OXE and its activities remains largely unexplored, it is connected to the Outer Circle, a secretive organization that exerts influence over global politics and governments.

In the comics, there are parallels to the Thunderbolts series, with characters like Bucky Barnes, Yelena Belova, and Alexei Shostakov being involved with O.X.E. Valentina’s dubious motives and the theme of betrayal are recurring elements. Bucky Barnes even approaches Valentina about leveraging O.X.E. to bring about positive change in the world.

The film’s release date has been moved to May 2, 2025, swapping places with The Fantastic Four. Joanna Calo has been assigned to rewrite the script, with earlier drafts focusing on the team’s mission, which might lead to their demise.
