Rumors Indicate ‘Secret Wars’ Could Be Split into Two Parts With a Looming Introduction of a Major Villain to the MCU

This year’s SDCC showcased many exciting updates for the future of the MCU. The most significant revelation was the shift in focus from Kang in the Multiversal Saga. What was previously titled ‘Avengers: Kang Dynasty’ has now been renamed ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ with Robert Downey Jr. set to play Doctor Doom.
Currently, little is known about the upcoming film beyond its release date of May 1, 2026, and that it will feature Doctor Doom, Doctor Strange, the Fantastic Four, and the Thunderbolts.
There’s been a lot of speculation about what the movie might adapt, but our biggest hint came from Alex Perez’s June Discord Q&A.
Perez suggested that ‘Secret Wars’ might be split into two parts due to the numerous storylines that can’t be condensed into a single 2-hour film. There’s also talk of potentially having multiple central antagonists.
In June, Perez also mentioned that Avengers 5 (Doomsday) would be a multiversal film with a more grounded story. There were rumors about adapting elements from the ‘Avengers Assemble/Avengers: Forever’ event, which features a Multiversal Council of Mephisto variants, known as the Council of Red, and a team-up of Avengers to avert existential destruction. Given Mephisto’s upcoming introduction to the MCU, this could be an intriguing direction.
Perez suggested that those interested in the future of the MCU should check out the ‘Secret Wars’ comics and ‘Time Runs Out.’ Additionally, the ‘Avengers Assemble/Avengers: Forever’ event might be worth exploring. Although Feige has confirmed that ‘Eternals 2’ is not currently in the plans, ‘Eternals Vol. 3’ remains something to watch for.
With Doom expected to be a key antagonist in ‘Doomsday’ and Mephisto’s impending introduction, there might be connections we haven’t yet uncovered.
