All Confirmed Characters Set to Appear in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’
This year’s SDCC was full of surprises as Marvel Studios returned to Hall H with plenty of updates on upcoming projects. The most important ones to watch are ‘Captain America: Brave New World,’ ‘Thunderbolts,’ ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps,’ and ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’
Yes, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is the new title replacing ‘Avengers: Kang Dynasty.’ After months of speculation about Kang’s fate in the MCU, it’s now official that the studio is shifting focus from Kang to Doctor Doom, who will be played by Robert Downey Jr.
Little is known about the movie, but we suspect it will adapt the ‘Time Runs Out’ storyline to some extent. The release date is set for May 1, 2026, with the Russo Brothers confirmed as directors.
Regarding the cast, several names have been confirmed, giving us a good idea of who might appear in the movie.
1. Victor Von Doom – Robert Downey Jr.
The biggest reveal of the night! Although reactions to this announcement have been mixed, we’re thrilled to see RDJ back where he belongs. RDJ’s comment, “Same task, different mask,” has sparked fan theories that he will portray a variant of Doctor Doom rather than the primary version.
2. Doctor Strange – Benedict Cumberbatch
This appearance wasn’t confirmed at SDCC but by Benedict Cumberbatch himself during an interview. The actor stated that the upcoming ‘Avengers’ installment is “cooking up a storm” and expressed his excitement to be part of it. Given the multiversal nature of the current MCU saga, Doctor Strange is expected to play a significant role, as leaks and scoops suggest. However, nothing is known about a potential solo project for Strange.
2. Fantastic Four
‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’ will introduce Marvel’s first family to the MCU. The movie is confirmed to be set in an alternate reality during the 1960s, with Galactus posing a significant threat to Earth. It was also confirmed at SDCC that all team members will appear in ‘Doomsday.’

3. Thunderbolts
The Thunderbolts also have a movie on the way, described as a team that will reluctantly work together. At SDCC, the first look at the character “Bob” was showcased, who many assume to be Sentry. Some team members confirmed to appear in ‘Doomsday’ include:

- Yelena Belova – Florence Pugh
- John Walker / U.S. Agent – Wyatt Russell
- Alexei Shostakov / Red Guardian – David Harbour
