Rumors: Nicolas Cage In Talks for The Role of Spider-Man Noir
Over a year ago, it was revealed that Amazon was gearing up to produce a live-action series centered on Marvel’s Spider-Man Noir, a superhero entrenched in 1930s New York City. Diverging from the typical Spider-Man narrative, this series would spotlight an older, more rugged character distinct from Peter Parker. Spearheaded by Oren Uziel, the show promised to carve its own niche within the Marvel universe, with Uziel assuming roles as both writer and executive producer.
The endeavor attracted attention from industry luminaries like producers Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal. Uziel, celebrated for his contributions to films such as ’22 Jump Street’ and the 2021 ‘Mortal Kombat,’ brought his considerable talents to the project. This series was just one in a string of Marvel character-driven endeavors at Amazon, standing alongside ‘Silk: Spider Society.’
Recent reports, however, have stirred considerable buzz, suggesting that Nicolas Cage is in talks to portray Spider-Man Noir, as disclosed by The Ankler. Cage, no stranger to superhero cinema with his notable role as ‘Ghost Rider,’ has also been linked to rumors about joining Marvel Studios’ yet-to-be-announced live-action Ghost Rider Project.
If these reports come to fruition, it wouldn’t mark Nicolas Cage’s first encounter with the role of Spider-Man Noir. He previously lent his voice to the character in ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.’ Cage imbued the character with a 1930s-style dialect reminiscent of Hollywood legends like Humphrey Bogart and James Cagney. In the film, Spider-Man Noir’s universe is depicted entirely in black and white, rendering him unfamiliar with colors. He finds himself in Miles Morales’ universe alongside other Spider-People, courtesy of the Kingpin’s super-collider. Throughout the narrative, he forms an attachment to a Rubik’s Cube before ultimately returning to his own dimension alongside his fellow heroes.
