Ryan Reynolds Opened Up About His Break From Acting

Ryan Reynolds, best known for the role of Marvel’s Merc with the Mouth recently announced he’s going to take a little break from acting to spend time with his family. He didn’t specify how long will that break last, but his reasons aren’t surprising and they’re quite understandable. Maybe we see him as a celebrity, but he’s still primarily a family man.

In an interview with Fatherly, Reynolds now specified if he’s really stepping down from a spotlight:

Well, yes and no. I’m not shooting another film. I have lots of other things I have to do, but the main point is that I’m there for my kids in the morning and night and I’m getting up with them and I’m putting them to bed at night. Those are things that I think they should be able to take for granted. Those are not things that should feel special in any way, shape, or form. So I’ll be in development on tons of stuff and working during the day while they’re at school. But for the most part, yeah. I’m not going to be shooting any films for a while. […] You can’t say you’re doing that without recognizing the obscene privilege it is to be able to do that. And part of it is to allow Blake to do some of the things that she wants to do and get to play in her own sandbox. And the other part is purely selfish. It’s just that I don’t want to miss this time. You don’t get this time back. And my kids are in school now, so they can’t travel with me to location. I have to be there. So it’s important and I’m super lucky I get to do it.

Reynolds released three new movies this year – Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard where he starred alongside Samuel L. Jackson, Salma Hayek, and Morgan Freeman. Free Guy, where he played an NPC inside an open-world video game. And Red Notice, a heist comedy where we starred alongside Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot. Red Notice debuted yesterday on Netflix.

It is known that Reynolds is working on the development of Deadpool 3, which is surely his most anticipated project in the future. Prior to his acting break, he wrapped production of The Adam Project, which is set to arrive next year. It was recently reported that he’ll star John Krasinski’s Imaginary Friends, and there are talks about respective sequels to Free Guy and Red Notice.

Of course, Reynolds is in no hurry to go back to the movie set, and that’s totally fine. Just like he said, he doesn’t want to miss this time. His true fans will show him support and they will patiently wait for his next projects whenever he feels okay to do them. Ryan, enjoy time with your family for as long as you’d like.
