Among the forthcoming MCU ventures slated for development and release in the coming years, none garners as much anticipation as the ‘Fantastic Four.’ While Marvel Studios remains tight-lipped about the official cast, rumors strongly suggest Pedro Pascal portraying Reed Richards alongside Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm. Additionally, there is substantial speculation surrounding Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s alleged casting as The Thing, with recent intriguing statements attributed to him in the press. While the news of Pedro Pascal’s likely portrayal of Reed Richards surfaced several months ago, it has now been substantiated by his SAG-AFTRA profile, which also indicates his imminent involvement in ‘Fantastic Four’ production.
Pedro Pascal can currently be seen starring opposite Ethan Hawke in Pedro Almodóvar’s short film, A STRANGE WAY OF LIFE, which first premiered at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. Up next Pascal can be seen starring in Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s independent film, FREAKY TALES, which is set to premiere at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival.
Pascal recently wrapped production on Ridley Scott’s highly anticipated GLADIATOR 2 and will soon begin production on Marvel Studios’ FANTASTIC FOUR.
While official confirmation regarding the casting of Sue Storm and The Thing is still pending, we’re pleased to have at least one cast member confirmed through official channels.
The acquisition of 21st Century Fox by The Walt Disney Company in 2017 sparked speculation about the integration of Fox-owned Marvel properties, including X-Men and Fantastic Four, into the MCU. After the acquisition was finalized in 2019, plans for ‘Fantastic Four’ films were momentarily halted but later reinstated with Kevin Feige’s announcement of a reboot at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019. Initially slated to direct the film, Jon Watts exited in April 2022, leading to considerations for Matt Shakman as the new director.
Shakman’s involvement was solidified at D23 Expo 2022, with Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer assigned to scriptwriting duties. However, script revisions caused delays, pushing the production start date to January 2024. Although the film’s release date was initially set for November 2024, it was subsequently rescheduled to February 2025, and later to May 2025.
