The newest MCU installment Eternals is now in theaters. And now, as the movie is gathering the box-office numbers, fans started wondering what will the future bring for the MCU’s newest (or oldest, if you wish) team.
SPOILER ALERT FROM NOW ON!
At the very end, before the theater projectors were turned off, hardcore fans who know there’s no standing up before the post-credits scene probably saw the classical, but always intriguing MCU sentence: “Eternals will return…” Now, we know that for sure, although Marvel is still silent about the potential sequel or if any of the characters from the movie will show up in some other MCU projects. What makes that final sentence even more intriguing is that it confirms the return of Eternals, but it doesn’t specify which ones. No one said all of them will be back.
The movie ended on quite a note. We can’t really say the Eternals were disbanded, but at the end – three of them are dead, three of them were taken who knows where by Arishem, three of them are on their ship Domo, and one left the group to live a normal life. That opens a lot of possibilities on what (and when) can we expect from the future of Eternals inside MCU.
But, although we’ll need to wait for a while to see Eternals again (or some of them at least), there is one we will surely revisit – Salma Hayek’s Ajak – the leader of the group. As reported by THR, in a recent interview with Smallzy’s Celebrity Small Talk, Hayek revealed:
“I did sign multiple movie deals! It was kind of fun being part of this… secret society that you have to protect so fearlessly!“
What makes this even more intriguing is the fact that Hayek’s character belongs in the group of Eternals who didn’t survive the movie. In fact, Ajak was killed almost right at the start and her death was actually one of the movie’s jump points. Almost everything we saw of Hayek’s characters was only through flashback scenes.
Of course, we know that killing a character doesn’t put them off the picture for the future, especially in MCU. But, everything with Eternals is still pretty fresh and we’ll need to wait to see what Marvel has in store for us. Well, when you’re a Marvel fan, waiting is like second breathing, right?
Eternals is now in theaters. During the opening weekend, the movie grossed over $161 million worldwide.
