Sam Raimi Hopes to Direct ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’: “They Haven’t Asked Me Yet. I Hope They Do”

raimi on directing secret wars

Sam Raimi found huge success with the ‘Spider-Man’ film trilogy, each installment grossing over $800 million worldwide. However, plans for further sequels were derailed due to script issues. Raimi aimed to redeem himself after disappointment with ‘Spider-Man 3’ by planning ‘Spider-Man 4,’ which never came to fruition. In 2022, he expressed regret about not ending the franchise on a high note after the least successful installment.

However, Raimi’s involvement with Spider-Man didn’t end there. He and Marc Webb later served as creative consultants for Marvel Studios’ ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ directed by Jon Watts. Recently, rumors have surfaced that Raimi could direct ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ a highly anticipated installment in the ‘Avengers’ franchise.

Sam Raimi talked about the rumors at this year’s WonderCon, admitting he’d love to work with Marvel again and direct the upcoming ‘Avengers.’

“I love 90% of the Marvel heroes that I’ve read in the great Stan Lee Marvel Universe comic books. I would love to work with Marvel again. They haven’t reasonably asked me to. I hope they had a good experience with me. They haven’t asked me yet. I hope they do.”

There are rumors about Raimi working on the upcoming ‘Spider-Man 4’ with Tobey Maguire, continuing the original trilogy. Raimi mentioned that, once again, no one has contacted him about it.

Raimi’s latest MCU project was ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’. Besides superhero movies, we’re also waiting for his horror-thriller ‘Don’t Move’, set to release sometime in 2024, where he served as the producer.
