Say I Love You is a manga written and drawn by Kanae Hazuki. It was published between 2008 and 2017 in Kōdansha’s Dessert magazine and eighteen volumes were released. The first season premiered several years ago and in this article, we are going to tell you whether you can expect the second season of Say I Love You anytime soon.

The second season of Say I Love You still hasn’t been confirmed or canceled yet. The first season aired ten years ago and while there still is some material to adapt from the original manga series, not counting possible original stories, the second season is still uncertain. Having said all of this, Say I Love You was a pretty popular series and based on all the known facts, a second season is not impossible, although it is unlikely.

The rest of this article will bring you all the known and unknown information related to a potential season two of Say I Love You. You’re going to find out about its potential release date, whether there is a trailer, what the story could be about, and much more about this intriguing anime series whose future is still very uncertain.

What do we know about Season 2 of Say I Love You?

Written and drawn by Kanae Hazuki, the manga was published between 2008 and 2017 in Kōdansha’s Dessert magazine. The first bound volume was published on August 11, 2008, and eighteen volumes were released. The adaptation into an animated television series was announced in May 2012 in Dessert magazine.

The adaptation was produced by the ZEXCS studio with direction by Takuya Satō and music by Yuuji Nomi. It was broadcast on Tokyo MX from October 6 to December 30, 2012 and has thirteen episodes. An OVA episode was also released with the limited edition of volume 11 of the manga.

The live-action film adaptation was announced in July 2013. It is directed and scripted by Asako Hyūga and was released in Japanese theaters on July 12, 2014. Haruna Kawaguchi plays the role of Mei and Sota Fukushi that of Yamato. The theme song is performed by One Direction. What does all of this tell us about a potential second season?

As you can see, the future of the Say I Love You anime is quite uncertain, but not because there’s no interest or lack of material. The series was fairly popular back in the day, but it’s been ten years and since anime series usually run while there’s a need to promote the written materials, the chances are very slim.

The original manga series ended five years ago and no new material has been released, which is why there is no need to promote anything else. Now, this doesn’t completely exclude the possibility of another season, but the chances are slimmer so we’ll just have to see whether there is enough interest for a continuation to make any proper predictions about the potential continuation of the series. The first season received solid reviews, but we simply don’t know enough to make any predictions on the show’s future.

In any case, the earliest we could see a potential second season is late 2023, but we’d have to get some confirmation on the future during 2022 or easily 2023; 2024 is also a strong possibility. The fans are demanding a new season, but we’ll just have to see how it goes; as far as things stand now, a cancelation has not been confirmed, but we cannot rule it out either. It all depends on the future so we’ll just have to wait.

What could Season 2 of Say I Love You be about?

At this moment, we do not know how far the second season of Say I Love You could take us because we don’t know how many additional chapters of the original manga series the season could potentially adapt; it could be the whole series or just a part of it. Namely, due to a lack of information in general, we have absolutely no clue how far the second season might go if it even happens. What follows is an overview of the original material so you can get a rough idea of what you could expect from the series if it ever comes back in the future.

After enduring a traumatic childhood experience that made her reluctant to make friends, 16-year-old Mei Tachibana resigned herself to no longer making friends in high school. But on one occasion, she catches the eye of Yamato Kurosawa, the most popular boy among the girls in her high school, who soon befriends her.

When a stalker follows Mei around, she contacts Yamato for help as he is one of the only contacts on her phone besides her mother. Yamato fends off the stalker by pretending to be Mei’s boyfriend and completes the facade by stating that he loves her and what becomes Mei’s first kiss. Since this Yamato rescue, Mei started dreaming that he was her protector. Later, she befriends Asami Oikawa, who idolizes Yamato.

From her, Mei heard rumors that Yamato kisses all the pretty girls in his school, except for a girl named Miki Arai, who is said to be his girlfriend. When Mei says she loves him, Yamato kisses her “for real.” Yamato arrives as Mei intends to go to the salon to get a haircut, which turns into a date. Along the way, they meet Aiko Muto with her boyfriend Masashi Tachikawa and invite the two to a bowling place.

Aiko, who is in love with Yamato after finding out her ex-boyfriend cheated on her, wonders what he saw in Mei, who doesn’t seem to care about him. When the two girls are alone, Aiko Mei pretends to leave him alone, but it was in vain as Yamato followed Mei out. Mei caught the attention of Kakeru Hayakawa, a man known to have slept with many other girls, including Aiko.

He then wastes no time and asks Yamato if he can set him up with Mei for lunch. Yamato is not aware that Kakeru has other plans for Mei. When Yamato is distracted by a phone call, he tries to convince her to be his girlfriend, but Mei suspects his motives and instantly leaves him alone. Yamato finds out what happened, and when Kakeru starts speaking ill of Mei, he slaps him, saying she is his girlfriend.

Yamato later catches up with Mei and confesses to her that he slept with Aiko, but only because she was heartbroken and lost at the time. Yamato agrees to care for the abandoned black kitten he and Mei found on the side of the road. One day, he invites her to his house to introduce Kuro, the black kitten to Mei’s white cat Marshmallow. Mei then meets Nagi, Yamato’s younger sister.

But once they met, Nagi didn’t like Mei because she felt that Mei was stealing Yamato. Due to the past, she had many friends until she realized they were using her and later against her, she stopped going to school for a while and only Yamato was there to cheer him up. Mei then comes to talk to him and they start to get along.

When Yamato returns after Kenji asks him to get a present from him and Asami, he finds Kuro, Marshmallow, Mei, and Nagi sleeping, all of them together, on his bedroom couch. An amateur model named Megumi Kitagawa arrives at the school that Yamato and Mei attend. Megumi seems to have fallen in love with Yamato at first sight, but he is not interested in her.

Things get worse when Yamato becomes a part-time male model and Megumi’s partner. Mei watches their first photoshoot together and suddenly gets jealous. Mei feels further depressed when the magazine that employs Megumi asks Yamato to continue modeling for her, despite her giving consent.

Yamato finds the time to text her on the way home from the photoshoot and be alone with Mei, but he is mostly at his modeling job and takes Megumi to the photoshoot instead of going home with Mei. Later, Mei notices that Yamato is no longer wearing her bracelet, and a few days later, rumors that Yamato and Megumi are dating and that he went to Megumi’s house (albeit for dinner) reached Mei.

Yamato realizes that he and Mei haven’t been back together for a long time, and neither have they. However, there is a misunderstanding when an indecisive Mei stops Yamato. Before that, Mei visits her part-time job at the bakery, where she meets a customer named Kai Takemura. Mei is shocked when he tries to ask for the special edition keychain Asami gave him. Yamato then realizes from Aiko that everyone at school knows about the rumors between him and Megumi, including Mei. He rushed to find Mei on the street, whose bracelet had broken.
