Scarlett Johansson’s Instagram Snub for ‘Jurassic World: Rebirth’ Sparks Debate Over Star Power

Scarlett Johansson is making headlines again, but this time it’s not about her acting chops. The star has flat-out refused to hop on Instagram to promote her upcoming flick, ‘Jurassic World: Rebirth,’ despite Universal Pictures practically begging her to join the social media game.

She got the nudge straight from the studio. ‘I got an email from Universal [Pictures], and they’re like, ‘Hey, would you consider joining Instagram in tandem with the release of “Jurassic World: Rebirth?”‘ Johansson spilled to Variety.

But she’s not budging. For her, it’s all about staying real. ‘I get a lot of pressure to join social media. [It does make me think]… is there a way where I could do this and stay true to who I am? It didn’t feel like I could,’ she said. Johansson’s take? If she doesn’t vibe with social media, she’s not about to fake it for anyone—not even a blockbuster.

Here’s the kicker—she’s not worried about the movie’s fate. ‘The film will do fine [anyway],’ she told Variety with a confidence that’s hard to argue with. And she might be right. ‘Jurassic World: Rebirth,’ set to roar into theaters on July 2, 2025, is the latest chapter in a franchise that’s been raking in billions since the original Jurassic Park hit screens back in 1993.

Directed by Gareth Edwards, the guy behind Rogue One, this one’s got a fresh cast including Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali alongside Johansson. The plot? A team tackling a dangerous mission tied to dinosaur DNA—classic Jurassic stuff with a modern twist.

Johansson’s no stranger to big roles. She’s been Black Widow in the Marvel universe since 2010’s Iron Man 2, dazzling us with her stunts and charm. But she’s also got a point about authenticity. ‘The work that I put out there is all based in truth. That’s the key ingredient,’ she explained. Forcing herself onto Instagram just doesn’t fit that mold. Plus, she’s kept her personal life—like her marriage to Colin Jost and their two kids—pretty private, which is rare for a star of her caliber.

The studio probably figured her joining Instagram would boost the hype, especially since she’s avoided social media for years. But Johansson’s betting on the film’s own legs. The Jurassic World series has a massive built-in crowd, with the last one, Dominion, pulling in over a billion dollars worldwide in 2022. Add in Edwards’ knack for action and a cast that’s already turning heads, and yeah, she might not need to post a single selfie.

Still, it’s bold. Most stars would jump at the chance to plug a project like this. Johansson’s stance has me wondering—does a movie this big even need extra star power online? Or is she just proving she’s above the game? Either way, it’s her call, and she’s owning it. ‘So if I was a person who really enjoyed social media, then I could totally get on the bandwagon. But I’m not,’ she said. Simple as that.

We’ll see how it plays out when ‘Jurassic World: Rebirth’ lands next summer. For now, Johansson’s keeping it real—and keeping Instagram at arm’s length.
