Sceptile Pokémon: Stats, Evolution, Best Moveset, Weaknesses & Counters

The world of Pokémon has been a growing phenomenon since 1996, when the first pair of video games came out in stores. Today, there are almost 900 individual Pokémon identified by the PokéDex and in this article, we are going to tell you everything you need to know about one of them – Sceptile.

Sceptile is a Grass-type Pokémon first introduced in Generation III of the core video games. It is the second and final evolution form of Treecko, one of the Generation’s Starters. Treecko first evolves into Grovyle, which, in turn, evolves into Sceptile. Sceptile can Mega Evolve into Mega Sceptile, thus becoming a dual Grass- and Dragon-type. It is weak to Flying-, Poison-, Bug-, Fire- and Ice-type moves, and is super effective against Rock-, Ground-, and Water-type Pokémon. It is not immune to any moves.

In this article, we are going to tell you all the information you’ll need if you want to breed a Sceptile in any of the games. You’ll find out about its type, its powers, its strengths and weaknesses, its evolutions, and its moves. We’re going to focus on both the core games, as well as other popular video games based on the Pokémon franchise.

Sceptile is a Grass-type Pokémon is the final evolution of Generation III’s Grass-type Starter Pokémon, Treecko. It was first introduced in Generation III of the video games and holds #254 in the National PokéDex.

It is a Pokémon that develops best in the forest. No one can reach him or beat him by force in the forest or jungle. Some spores come out of his back that are responsible for healing the trees. It has blades on the edges of its hands, sharp as blades, and its solar beam is devastating. It looks like a Dilophosaurus, which is a carnivorous dinosaur.

This Pokémon is the fastest grass-type Pokémon and, like Charizard and Feraligatr, has Dragon-type genes. Sceptile’s power is unmatched in the jungle and they are the dominant species in such environments. Besides that, not even the fastest Pokémon can beat him in the jungle or in the woods. Sceptile’s body is configured for battle prowess and superior mobility in the jungle, with long, sharp blades protruding from his arms that can easily cut down large trees. It knows the jungle by heart.

As protectors of the forests, these Pokémon carefully grow trees and plants. The orb-shaped seeds on Sceptile’s back contain nutrients which he uses to revitalize the trees in his care. Sceptile regulates his body temperature by taking sunbaths. This Pokémon still retains the arrogant and brash temperament of Treecko, and Grovyle, it is very proud so it is easily offended, which makes it very difficult to deal with, but it is also very affectionate and outgoing with its trainer.

It establishes a bond superior to that of friendship with its trainer, and what happens to the trainer affects it a lot (it is not the first time that this Pokémon attacks with all its fury whoever has done something bad to its trainer). The friendship he feels is so great that he is capable of sacrificing himself to save his coach’s life.

Starting with Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire and only during battles, Sceptile can Mega Evolve into Mega Sceptile thanks to Sceptilite. It acquires the Dragon type and its ability changes as well. When mega evolving it increases in weight and size and also its attack, defense, special attack, and speed characteristics.

His tail now ends in a point, with the red end, being able to cut a piece of it to shoot it at his opponent as if it were a missile and it will grow back. The seeds on his back multiply, changing color as we get closer to the end. The dagger-shaped blades of the arms turn red at the tip, and become more stylized and sharp. Its crest becomes more aquiline, and it seems bitten. Thanks to the power of its agile legs, Mega-Sceptile can launch itself at its opponent in the blink of an eye.

Sceptile’s Stats, based on the most recent available data, are:

In Pokémon GO, Sceptile has a Base Stamina of 172, a Base Attack of 223, and a Base Defense of 169.

As for its abilities, they are:

  • Overgrow: Powers up Grass-type moves when the Pokémon’s HP is low.
  • Unburden: Boosts the Speed stat if the Pokémon’s held item is used or lost. (Hidden Ability)
  • Lightning Rod: The Pokémon draws in all Electric-type moves. Instead of being hit by Electric-type moves, it boosts its Sp. Atk. (Mega Ability)

Strengths and Weaknesses

As a pure Grass-type Pokémon, Sceptile is weak against Flying-, Poison-, Bug-, Fire- and Ice-type moves, and is super effective against Rock-, Ground-, and Water-type Pokémon. It is not immune to any specific type. It receives normal damage from Normal-, Fighting-, Rock-, Ghost-, Steel-, Psychic-, Dragon-, Dark-, and Fairy-type moves.

RELATED: How to Mega Evolve in Pokémon Go?

The Mega Evolution, a dual Dragon- and Grass-type, is – in addition to the above-listed ones – weak to Dragon- and Fairy-type moves, and is damaged normally by Normal-, Fighting-, Rock-, Ghost-, Steel-, Psychic-, and Dark-type moves. On the other hand, it is fully immune to Electric-type moves and super effective, in addition to the ones above, against Dragon-type moves.

Sceptile was first introduced in Generation III as the second and final evolution of Treecko. Treecko first evolved into Grovyle, starting at Level 16, and then into Sceptile starting at Level 36. Sceptile can further evolve into Mega Sceptile when exposed to the Sceptilite.

In Pokémon GO, Sceptile is also obtained by first evolving Treecko into Grovyle, for which you need 25 Treecko Candy, and after that, Grovyle to Sceptile, for which you need 100 Treecko Candy. Mega Sceptile is not yet available in the game.

As of Generation VIII, the movies that Sceptile can learn are:

  • Bold indicates a move that gets STAB when used by Sceptile
  • Italic indicates a move that gets STAB only when used by an evolution of Sceptile
  • Click on the generation numbers at the top to see level-up moves from other generations
  • × indicates a move that cannot be used in Generation VIII

In Pokémon GO, Sceptile can learn Fury Cutter and Bullet Seed as Fast Attacks, and Leaf Blade, Aerial Ace, Earthquake, Dragon Claw, and Frenzy Plant as Charged Attacks. Some of these attacks depend on when you caught and evolved your Sceptile, as they are event-only attacks.
