Season 2 (& a Movie Sequel) Teased for Star Wars Hit TV Series That Managed to Score 92% on Rotten Tomatoes
Star Wars fans have reason to be excited as Jon Watts, the showrunner of the hit series Skeleton Crew, has hinted at the possibility of a second season and maybe even a spinoff movie.
The first season came out over six months ago and followed a group of young adventurers from the planet At Attin as they explored the galaxy.
In a recent interview with Collider’s Steve Weintraub at the Mediterrane Film Festival, Watts shared some hints about what could be next for Skeleton Crew. He said, “I love Star Wars, and I would love to make more Star Wars. I can’t say anything more. We always get in trouble when we do these interviews. I always say something, and I get in trouble. Like, I probably shouldn’t have said that. […] You’re going to get me in trouble.”
This shows he is interested in continuing the story but has to be careful about what he reveals.
Watts also talked about the future of Star Wars in general. He feels confident because he’s working with Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, who are both involved in making Star Wars movies. He explained, “The two people that I worked with, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, as my main producers on Skeleton Crew, both made Star Wars movies. Well, Dave hasn’t made his yet. Favreau made his, so I know that’s for sure.
So, it was like, ‘If we have something we want to make, we’re gonna make it.’ I don’t know about the rest of the development process and the people who come in, and how large the Star Wars universe is, but at least in our little umbrella of Star Wars, our corner of the Star Wars sandbox, we were able to do things. Even if I worked on a Star Wars thing and it never happened, it’s really fun to just use your imagination and make up fun things that could happen in Star Wars.”
Skeleton Crew was well-loved by fans, especially because it offered a fresh and positive story at a time when the Star Wars community was divided. The show’s focus on young heroes made it special and gave fans hope for new directions in the franchise.
However, making a second season or a movie could be tricky. Since the cast members are young, they need to start production soon to keep the story’s coming-of-age feel. One of the lead actors, Ryan Keira Armstrong, has already taken on a big role in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot, which could affect scheduling.
Still, a new season or movie isn’t out of the question. Recently, the new Star Wars galaxy map placed the planet At Attin, where the kids are from, close to Grand Admiral Thrawn’s new base. This placement could be a hint for future stories.
In my view, it’s exciting to hear about the possibility of more Skeleton Crew. The show brought a fresh energy to Star Wars, and I hope the team can find a way to continue the adventure. What do you think about a new season or movie? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
