Sentry Actor Lewis Pullman Dispels Six-Fingered AI Poster Conspiracy Theory

How Many Fingers Does Sentry Actually Have? Potential 'Thunderbolts*' Poster Error Implies Marvel Used AI to Create It

A few days ago, the first trailer and promotional posters for Thunderbolts* were released, offering a glimpse of the movie’s cast, including the much-anticipated debut of Marvel’s most powerful superhero, Sentry.

Portrayed by Lewis Pullman, the trailer already highlighted Sentry’s invincibility. However, it appears the MCU will add an intriguing twist to the character, portraying him as a “manufactured” superhero.

Fans, however, largely overlooked the finer details in the trailer, as the poster alone sparked significant controversy. The official movie poster, shared on Marvel’s own social media, appeared to show Sentry with six fingers, catching everyone’s attention.

We reviewed the trailer, focusing on Sentry’s scenes, and confirmed he has five fingers in the footage. Fans reached the same conclusion—that the poster was either AI-generated or a mistake occurred during digital editing.

The MCU isn’t new to using AI, as Secret Invasion faced backlash for its AI-generated intro.

Fortunately, the poster wasn’t AI-generated. According to Lewis Pullman, who spoke to Collider, the “sixth finger” is just an optical illusion. He explained it was caused by an unusual hand position and shadows, not an extra finger.

If you look closely, there’s actually no mistakes going on. I actually spent some time because I was like, ‘Did they give me a sixth finger?’ But they didn’t. It’s just cropped at the right point where it looks like there’s an extra tip happening or something. But that’s about it. I love that.

The actor is right—if you spend enough time examining the poster as he did, the perspective shifts, and it becomes clear that he has five fingers in total.

I’ve tried to color-code it to the best of my abilities, but if you just count the numbers of fingers and fingertips you will see that we have 5, instead of 6. It’s the angle of his hand and the bizarre way in which his fingers were bent, it looks like the sixth fingertip is not visible in the image, but it is, it’s just that it looks like it belongs to his ring finger
