Shake-Up at MI6: Amazon MGM Takes Full Creative Control of ‘James Bond’ as Broccoli & Wilson Step Back
Amazon MGM Studios is now in charge of the creative direction of the James Bond franchise after long-time producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson announced they are stepping back.
The news came alongside the reveal of a new joint venture between Amazon MGM, Broccoli, and Wilson, where they will remain co-owners of the franchise, but Amazon MGM will lead future productions.
Mike Hopkins, head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, called Bond “one of the most iconic characters in filmed entertainment” and said the studio is “honored to continue this treasured heritage” while preparing for the next era of 007.
Wilson, who has worked on Bond films for nearly 60 years, said he is retiring from producing to focus on art and charity projects. Broccoli, whose father Cubby Broccoli helped create the Bond films, said she is moving on to other projects after dedicating her life to maintaining the franchise’s legacy.
Since Amazon bought MGM in 2022, it has owned the rights to distribute Bond movies. Now, it will also have full creative control over future films.
The last Bond film, “No Time to Die” (2021), starred Daniel Craig in his final role as 007 and made $775 million worldwide. However, there have been no official updates on the next movie or who will play Bond next.
