Several exciting Star Wars movies are coming soon, including The Mandalorian & Grogu, set for release on May 22, 2026, with Jon Favreau directing. Other upcoming films include projects by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Dave Filoni, James Mangold, and Simon Kinberg, some of which are still in early stages.

There’s also Shawn Levy’s highly anticipated Star Wars movie. After reports in November 2022 about him being in talks to direct, Levy confirmed he’s working on it after the release of Deadpool & Wolverine.

Industry insider Daniel Richtman now shares that Levy’s film may begin shooting in Fall 2025 in the UK. It seems Levy has made changes to the original plot, which was set in the far future with an older Rey.

Not much is known about Shawn Levy’s Star Wars movie yet, but he has hinted that it will be a standalone story with new characters and fresh themes. The movie will explore ideas like the Force, connection, and individual power.

Levy, working with screenwriter Jonathan Tropper, wants to avoid repeating familiar timelines and make something unique. He aims to create a story that feels natural, with characters and tone that connect personally, combining exciting visuals and wish fulfillment, which he believes is essential to Star Wars.

While there are no plot details yet, Levy’s film is part of a larger group of Star Wars projects, though no official release date has been set.

Richtman also mentioned that two Star Wars animated projects are in development, which isn’t surprising given the success of past shows like The Clone Wars and Rebels, as well as Marvel Studios’ move toward more animated content.
