The series, known for its intense battles and emotional twists, wrapped up its manga in 2021 and its main TV run last year. But that doesn’t mean the story’s done surprising us. A new movie, ‘Attack on Titan The Movie: The Last Attack,’ hit theaters in Japan on November 8, 2024, and it brought a long-awaited treat in its post-credits scene.

What’s the fuss about? It’s all about Mikasa Ackerman, one of the show’s toughest fighters, showing up in a way we’ve never seen her animated before. This isn’t the usual scarf-wearing, Titan-slaying Mikasa. We’re talking about Goth Mikasa, a darker, modern twist on her character that’s been a hit with fans for years. She’s finally made it to the screen, and I can’t help but smile at how cool this moment is.

The movie itself pulls together the final specials from the anime’s fourth season, giving us a polished recap of how everything ended. But the real gem comes after the credits roll. In this bonus scene, Mikasa, alongside Eren Yeager and Armin Arlert, pops up in a totally different vibe. They’re just regular kids watching a movie—specifically, the very Attack on Titan film we just saw. It’s a happy little ending, a break from all the chaos they’ve lived through. Mikasa rocks a gothic look, complete with a bold style that swaps her soldier gear for something edgier, while Armin goes full nerd with glasses, and Eren keeps it simple.

This isn’t the first time we’ve caught a glimpse of Goth Mikasa in the anime. Back in Season 4, Episode 78, when Eren took a brutal hit from Gabi, there was a quick flash of her and a nerdy Armin in his memory. That cameo was a nod to a fun side project by Hajime Isayama, the guy who created Attack on Titan. He sketched out these alternate versions in a manga extra called ‘Attack on School Castes,’ where the characters ditch the Titan wars for high school life. It ran as a playful bonus from Volumes 21 to 34, showing Mikasa with a gothic edge and Armin as the brainy type.

Why does this matter? Because we’ve been dying to see more of this Mikasa ever since those sketches dropped. Her gothic makeover fits her tough, quiet personality so well—it’s like a different side of her coming to life. Isayama even pushed for her to show up in the anime, first with that Season 4 Easter egg and now with this bigger moment. The post-credits scene feels like a thank-you to us, giving these beloved alternate characters a proper animated debut.

The movie clocks in at 145 minutes, directed by Yuichiro Hayashi, with Hiroshi Seko handling the script and Tomohiro Kishi designing the characters. It’s got upgraded visuals and sound, making it a solid watch even if you’ve seen the specials. But let’s be real—the buzz is all about that ending scene. Seeing Mikasa, Eren, and Armin living a normal, happy moment after everything they’ve been through hits different. It’s a sweet wrap-up, and Goth Mikasa stealing the show just makes it better.

So, if you’re an Attack on Titan fan, this is a moment worth catching. It’s not a hint at a new series or anything wild like that—just a fun, heartfelt bonus that brings a fan-favorite idea to life. I’m glad they did it, and I bet we’ll be talking about Goth Mikasa for a while.
