‘Silo’ Season 3 Just Earned a Perfect Score and Critics Think It May Be the Best Sci-Fi on Television Right Now
Apple TV has quietly built one of the most impressive science fiction lineups in streaming, and the underground thriller ‘Silo’ has been one of its crown jewels since the series premiered back in 2023. Created by Graham Yost and based on Hugh Howey’s bestselling trilogy of novels covering ‘Wool’, ‘Shift’, and ‘Dust’, the show is set in a dystopian future where thousands of people live in a giant underground structure spanning 144 levels, bound by rules they believe exist to protect them. Rebecca Ferguson anchors the whole thing with a performance that critics and audiences have responded to across every chapter of the story.
The hit Apple TV dystopian thriller premiered in 2023 and quickly became one of the streamer’s biggest shows. Each season has pushed the mythology further into darker, more complex territory, and the fan base has grown more devoted along the way. Season 1 earned an 88% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes while Season 2 settled at a strong 92%, proving a rare upward trajectory for the high-concept sci-fi show.
Now, with ‘Silo’ Season 3 set to premiere on July 3, the embargo has lifted and the early numbers are something few returning dramas ever achieve. Season 3 has debuted with a perfect 100% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, making it the best-reviewed season of the series yet. The praise pouring in from critics suggests the creative team has delivered something genuinely ambitious and emotionally resonant.

Writing for Collider, Tania Hussain praised the season’s emotionally rich storytelling, nuanced performances, and intimate character-driven focus, declaring that the show sets a new standard for what prestige sci-fi can be. Over at SlashFilm, Chris Evangelista noted that while other Apple TV hits may generate more cultural noise, ‘Silo’ remains uniquely addictive in a way few shows manage to match. CBR’s Katie Doll went further, awarding a perfect score and declaring the show is everything a series of this genre was meant to be, adding that the final two episodes are among the most intense and brilliant television of the year.
Part of what makes Season 3 such a departure is its dual-timeline structure. In the present, Juliette Nichols survives her forced cleaning but returns with memory loss as the silo recovers from rebellion and faces a dangerous new threat. Meanwhile, in the era before the silos were built, journalist Helen Drew and Congressman Daniel Keene begin uncovering a conspiracy with catastrophic, irreversible consequences. This new season draws heavy inspiration from Howey’s second book in the trilogy, ‘Shift’.
A fourth and final season of ‘Silo’ has already been announced, giving the creative team a clear runway to bring the story to a proper conclusion. ScreenRant’s Felipe Rangel, who gave Season 3 an eight out of ten, wrote that the season ushers in a completely different but genuinely exciting new era for the dystopian show. With critical consensus this strong ahead of the premiere, the underground world of ‘Silo’ has never felt more worth descending into.
Whether you’ve been with ‘Silo’ since the very first episode or you’re just now considering a dive into the silo, how excited are you for what Season 3 is shaping up to be, and do you think it can hold that perfect score once the full wave of reviews arrives?
