Silver Sable Project Reportedly Reignited: New Development at Sony

Despite a string of box office failures, Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU) continues to thrive with numerous projects in the pipeline. Venom: The Last Dance is set to premiere next week, followed by Kraven the Hunter in December, while Spider-Man Noir is currently being developed for Amazon.

Additionally, there are rumors circulating that the long-anticipated film centered on the Sinister Six is still in the works.

According to the latest rumors from Daniel Richtman on his Patreon account, one SSU project has resumed development—the film centered on Silver Sable.

Silver Sable is a highly skilled mercenary, hunter, and soldier from Latvia. As the daughter of the former leader of the Silver Sable Sablinova family, she has a deep-rooted legacy of hunting war criminals and is dedicated to delivering justice through unconventional methods.

Throughout her history in the Marvel Universe, Silver Sable has worked with various groups and characters, including Silver Sable International and the Wild Pack, potentially linking her to Kraven.

Silver Sable was slated to receive her own film a while ago. The unproduced Silver & Black was meant to feature both Silver Sable and Black Cat as part of the SSU. Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, the screenplay was co-written with contributions from Lisa Joy, Chris Yost, Lindsey Beer, and Geneva Robertson-Dworet.

Initially, Black Cat was intended to appear in the unproduced Spider-Man 4 before making her debut in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014). Development on Silver & Black began in October 2014, with the focus officially shifting to both characters by March 2017.

Despite starting pre-production, which included plans to cast a Black actress in one of the roles, the director’s dissatisfaction with the script led to delays.

In July 2018, Prince-Bythewood chose to direct The Old Guard, prompting Sony to cancel Silver & Black the following month. The studio then pivoted to developing separate solo films for each character, with Prince-Bythewood expected to remain as a producer.

By January 2020, the project had shifted toward becoming a television series, and in July 2020, Prince-Bythewood expressed interest in revisiting the project after her work on The Old Guard.

Given this background, it seems little has changed now that development is reportedly back on track. What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments below!
