Sir Ian McKellen Denies Retirement, Fuels Speculation of Magneto Comeback

Sir Ian McKellen is undeniably an acting legend, with a remarkable career spanning over six decades since the 1950s. His incredible versatility has seen him thrive in both classical theater and blockbuster film franchises.

Among his most iconic roles are Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings series and Magneto in the X-Men films.

Despite recent health concerns, Sir Ian McKellen has repeatedly confirmed that he has no plans to retire. He even hinted at a possible return as Gandalf, as several upcoming projects are set to feature the White Wizard. McKellen expressed his desire to reprise the role, health permitting.

In a recent interview with NPR, the actor reaffirmed that retirement is not on the horizon, using an intriguing analogy to emphasize his point:

I’ll carry on until the knees give way or the memory gives way or the mind goes. There’s nothing else I’d rather do with my life than that. Much better to wear out than rust out, as they say,

Following McKellen’s analogy involving rust, fans began speculating whether this could hint at his potential return as Magneto in the MCU.

While McKellen may be considered too old to play Magneto in the upcoming X-Men reboot, that doesn’t rule out a potential return as a variant in Secret Wars. The film is rumored to feature nearly a hundred characters, and while most won’t make an appearance, fans would love to see McKellen reprise the role one more time.

Patrick Stewart already made a brief appearance as Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, so it’s possible McKellen could show up in a similar fashion.
