Starting a new Skyrim playthrough is always exciting. You’re trying to experience the game again, fueled by nostalgia, or you’re looking forward to testing new mods. In any case, you’re in for a wild ride. One less pleasant aspect of starting a new Skyrim playthrough is the fact that you have to go through a lengthy intro and tutorial dungeon. Especially paired with the scripted intro becoming a bugged mess when you install some mods. This is why many players are looking for ways to skip that intro and the main reason why we’ve decided to put together this guide. Let’s see how to skip the Skyrim intro with mods and console commands.

  • Article Breakdown:
  • PC players can skip the Skyrim intro using console commands by combining several commands, including teleportation, racemenu, and setstage commands, to progress through the game “naturally.”
  • The process involves launching the game, entering specific commands in the console menu to teleport to Riverwood, and then completing character creation and quest stages to align with the game’s progression.
  • Mods offer an alternative way to skip the intro, with “Live Another Life” providing various backstory options for characters, and “TDG’s Skippable Intro Tutorial” allowing players to skip the tutorial with a simple pop-up confirmation.
  • For those who prefer not to use mods or console commands, downloading pre-made save files from Skyrim Nexus, like “Save Game – Skip Intro” or creating a custom save file, offers a straightforward method to bypass the intro.

Skipping Skyrim intro with console commands

For PC players, console commands are the primary way to deal with most obstacles. They are easier than installing mods, and they allow you to cheat your way through some technicalities. Through careful planning, you can use them to skip the Skyrim intro altogether.

No single command will allow you to skip the intro; you will have to combine several commands, including teleportation, racemenu, and setstage commands, to progress through the game “naturally.” To skip the Skyrim intro via console commands, follow these steps:

  1. Launch the game, and while in the main menu, open console and type coc riverwood
  2. Open your inventory; you should have all starting items with you. Remove your helmet
  3. type showracemenu to edit your character
  4. Name your character and complete character creation
  5. Type player.setstage MQ101 900 to complete the Unbound quest
  6. Type player.setstage MQ102 10 to start the main quest storyline

First, start with launching the game. DO NOT START A NEW GAME OR LOAD A SAVE. You must launch the console and enter the teleport command while in the main menu. If you teleport yourself while you’ve already started the tutorial, you will still manage to teleport to Riverwood, but your character will more or less be frozen, and you will not be able to access your inventory.

After using the commands you will spawn at Riverwood with the whole set of Iron Armor and additional supplies you would have looted in Helgen Keep

The second step is to remove your helmet. You will spawn in Riverwood as the default Nord. Helmet removal is needed if you plan to play another race or customize your character.

The third step is to access the same character creation menu you would have if you’ve played through the tutorial. This is easily done via showracemenu command, and you will have all the options when you start the game regularly.

The last two steps are required so you can progress through the game “naturally.” The player.setstage MQ101 900 command allows you to finish the Unbound quest, so when you revisit Helgen further in the game, it will be destroyed as if you’ve truly witnessed Alduin destroying it.

The player.setstage MQ102 10 command allows you to start the main quest Before the Storm, which otherwise automatically triggers as soon as you leave the tutorial dungeon.

You should have no issues starting the game this way as long as you follow all the steps to the letter.

Skipping the Skyrim intro through mods

Another option to skip the lengthy intro and tutorial are mods. You can pick numerous mods, and we’ve decided to present you with the most popular ones.

1. Live Another Life

Live Another Life is the most popular “alternate” start mod, allowing you to select a backstory for your character. This is especially useful for players who are tired of Bethesda’s “start as a prisoner with no past” routine. Not only does Live Another Life allow you to skip the Skyrim intro, but it also allows you to choose several “pre-made” characters that you can start as.

You can start the new game as a property owner, which provides you with a house in several of Skyrim’s major cities (or Hearthfire houses). You can start the new playthrough as a member of any of the major guilds in Skyrim. And if you prefer “living on the edge,” you can choose “Shipwrecked off the Coast” or “Attacked and Left for Dead” options. This mod is truly amazing, and I recommend trying it to add depth to your character.

2. TDG’s Skippable Intro Tutorial

If you don’t want your character to have an alternate start and you merely want to skip the intro with no fuss or complications, then what you’re looking for is TDG’s Skippable Intro Tutorial. After installing this mod and starting a new game, you will get a pop-up asking whether you want to skip the tutorial. That’s all there is to it. It doesn’t have many features, but it gets the work done.

Skipping Skyrim intro through save games

If you don’t like installing mods and the prospect of using console commands on your brand-new playthrough, you can always simply download someone else’s save file. There are several safe options available on Skyrim Nexus, like Save Game – Skip Intro and Skip the Intro Savefile. This is the best option for players who want to avoid messing with the game’s scripts and are not looking for an alternate start to the game and merely want to skip the riding carriage intro that often seems broken.

You can also create one such save by yourself. Immediately before the character creation screen pops up, type the following command: save game skipintrosave this will create a specially named save for future use that you can recycle as long as you want. Just be careful not to delete it.

And this is pretty much all. As you can see, there are many options when it comes to skipping the intro, and something is bound to work for you.
