Skyrim: Yes, You Can Delete Characters & Here’s How

Everyone who spent a second playing Skyrim knows that character management can be a nightmare. As soon as you load the game, you’re greeted by basically a long list of save games. It’s possible to create more characters, as in any other modern game, but the thing is, the only way to distinguish between multiple characters is to click on a save game directly to analyze it in more detail. Deleting characters in Skyrim is straightforward

The vanilla version of the game does not distinguish between separate “characters” that you make. Instead, all save games associated with all characters are in the same Skyrim folder and are organized in a single list. 

You can rectify this mistake by manually saving your games and giving them specific names, most often, the character you’re playing. You can do this by following these steps:

1. open the console with ~
2. type save <name of the save game> 
3. press enter 

This way, each save game associated with a different character will have a unique name, and locating these save games will be easier, as will deleting them. 

One character can have numerous save games associated with it, and deleting them from inside the game’s menu is quite frankly dreadful. 

You can delete characters and save games from inside My Documents, where Skyrim’s folder for save games is located by default. The path looks like this: C:\Users\YOUR PC NAME\Documents\My Games\Skyrim\Saves

You can delete the saved games in bulk this way and save yourself some headaches. Besides, you can easily see the information associated with individual save game files without going through Skyrim’s impractical menu user interface.  

To sum everything up, the only way to delete characters in Skyrim is to delete save files associated with them. You can do this from the game’s menu or by going to Skyrim’s save game folder on your PC.

There are thousands of mods available that aim to improve your experience of the game. Most of them are geared toward improving graphics, quests, gameplay, and immersion but some of them are utility-oriented.

Once you have Skyrim Profile Manager installed and you’re ready to delete a certain character, all you have to do is delete a profile associated with that specific character.
