Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse Part 2 Gets A New Title — Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse
With Tom Holland’s MCU Spider-Man trilogy concluded and with no word when we’re going to see live-action Spider-Man on the big screen again, Spider-Man fans are now focusing on the upcoming sequel(s) of the 2018 animated hit Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Last December, the first look at the sequel was revealed by Sony, announcing that the first sequel will be titled Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Part 1, and the third entry will have the same title as Part 2.
Do you remember back when Marvel Studios first announced Avengers: Infinity War? It was told that the third Avengers movie will be titled Infinity War Part 1 and the fourth movie will be Infinity War Part 2. That changed later when Marvel decided to keep the title only for the first part, and Part 2 later got its official title — Avengers: Endgame. Well, now almost the same thing is happening with the Spider-Verse franchise. After the first movie, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was released in 2018, the sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will be released in June 2023, and the third movie, now officially titled Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, is set to be released in March 2024.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was released in 2018 and it was a huge hit for Sony. The movie was praised by critics and the audience, grossed $375.5 million worldwide, and won the Academy Award for the Best Animated Feature, which broke Disney’s long-term domination in winning this award every year. Of course, Disney continued its domination after that, but Sony’s success with Into the Spider-Verse was more than enough to start working on these sequels.
Producers announced that the sequels will be bigger and much more ambitious than the first movie, which explains why they picked to split the story of the sequel into two movies. Phil Lord and Chris Miller were talking at the CinemaCon about the sequels, revealing that the first sequel will feature around 240 characters, and it will take place across six universes. For comparison, the first movie had 40 characters.
Starring Shameik Moore, Jake Johnson, Hailee Steinfeld, Issa Rae, and Oscar Isaac, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is set to be released on June 2, 2023. Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse is set to be released on March 29, 2024
