Box office records rarely survive an entire summer intact, but few films manage to keep rewriting the record books week after week the way this one has. What started as an impressive opening weekend has turned into a sustained assault on nearly every major domestic milestone the industry tracks.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ has continued its record-shattering run into its fourth weekend of release, with early tracking pointing to another $40 million haul. That kind of hold this deep into a theatrical run is remarkable on its own, but the bigger story is what it means for the film’s overall trajectory toward the top of box office history.

With that projected weekend total, ‘Brand New Day’ is now closing in fast on the all-time domestic box office record, currently held by 2015’s ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ at $936.6 million unadjusted for inflation. Having already become the fastest film ever to cross $800 million domestically, this latest Spider-Man installment now has a genuine shot at becoming the first movie in history to hit $1 billion at the North American box office alone.

That milestone chase started immediately out of the gate. The film opened to a staggering $360 million domestically, officially becoming the biggest domestic debut in box office history and beating out ‘Avengers: Endgame’s’ previous record of $357.1 million. Globally, it debuted to $932 million, the second-largest worldwide opening ever, trailing only Endgame’s massive $1.223 billion launch.

From there, the records kept piling up. ‘Brand New Day’ crossed the $1 billion worldwide mark in just six days, the second-fastest film ever to reach that threshold behind only Endgame, and hit $2 billion globally within three weeks of release. Along the way, it also delivered the highest-grossing Monday in box office history with $47 million, surpassing 2018’s ‘Black Panther,’ and later set a new record for the best domestic Tuesday ever with $42 million.

What makes this particular chase so compelling is how unusual it is for a film to seriously threaten ‘The Force Awakens’ nine-year-old domestic benchmark. Very few films manage the combination of a massive opening and the kind of sustained, slow-decaying holds needed to keep climbing toward $900 million and beyond in North America alone.

‘Brand New Day’ has managed exactly that, becoming the highest-grossing film of 2026 within just seven days of release, surpassing Pixar’s ‘Toy Story 5’ along the way. With current domestic totals already sitting well north of $800 million, and another strong weekend on the horizon, the math toward eventually surpassing ‘The Force Awakens’ looks increasingly realistic.

Beyond the domestic record itself, box office analysts have started speculating about an even more historic possibility: whether ‘Brand New Day’ could become the very first film to cross $1 billion at the North American box office alone, a threshold no movie has ever reached domestically. Given how consistently the film has defied typical post-opening decay rates, that once-improbable milestone now looks genuinely within reach.

Directed by Will Gluck and starring Tom Holland in his fourth solo outing as Peter Parker, the film has proven to be a rare theatrical event capable of drawing audiences back to cinemas week after week, well beyond its initial opening frenzy.

With another strong weekend already tracking and momentum showing no signs of significant slowdown, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ appears poised to keep making history throughout the remainder of its theatrical run. Whether it ultimately claims the all-time domestic crown, becomes the first film to cross $1 billion in North America, or accomplishes both, this Spider-Man installment has already cemented itself as one of the most extraordinary box office runs in recent memory.
