‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Trailer Leaks Again and Fans Are Furious Sony Still Can’t Keep a Secret

Few superhero films in recent memory have generated the kind of sustained, electric anticipation that ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘ has built since its announcement. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and set four years after the events of ‘No Way Home’, the story follows Peter Parker navigating life as a solo hero, the world around him having forgotten he exists as a person while Spider-Man remains a beloved public figure. With a cast stacked with familiar faces and a July release window fast approaching, the hype has reached a near-fever pitch.

The film’s villain roster alone has kept fans busy speculating for months, with Tombstone, Scorpion, Boomerang, Tarantula, and the Hand all confirmed as threats for Peter to face. Jon Bernthal’s Punisher is also set to appear in a supporting capacity, and Sadie Sink has been widely speculated to be playing a version of Jean Grey, with her apparent telepathic abilities teased across multiple promotional drops. Every new piece of information has felt like a carefully rationed gift, which makes what happened next all the more frustrating for the fanbase.

A low-resolution bootleg of the film’s second trailer surfaced on social media, so cropped and zoomed in that the footage is nearly impossible to make out with clarity, though a visible “Property of Columbia Pictures” watermark left little doubt about its authenticity. Multiple sources had reported that Sony intended to release the trailer officially on June 17, timed to coincide with ticket sales going live, meaning fans lost the crisp, HD version of a reveal that was only days away. Sony quickly began issuing copyright strikes against the footage as it spread across platforms.

Despite the murky picture quality, scene descriptions and audio from the leak have confirmed several major plot details, including a prison brawl between Spider-Man and Hand ninjas, and the emergence of a Grey Hulk apparently triggered by the mind-jumping powers of Sadie Sink’s mystery character. The leak also clarifies that the climactic aerial shot of Spider-Man and the Hand fighting high above New York, which appeared in an earlier trailer, was misdirection, with that sequence actually taking place inside the prison setting.

This is not the first time Sony’s security has failed the film. The very first trailer for ‘Brand New Day’ had to be remade after it leaked online, forcing VFX artists to work overtime on weekends to deliver it on time, a scramble that left some shots with noticeably rough visual effects. The pattern has fans genuinely worried about what comes next. Reactions online have been largely negative, with one user writing that the leak would likely push the official trailer back by two weeks, and another blaming the leakers for potentially forcing Sony to rework its entire rollout plan.

Despite the chaos, industry observers suggest the official trailer may now drop earlier than June 17 given the circumstances, while Sony’s existing promotional plans are reportedly still intact for the time being. The film remains on course for its theatrical release on July 31, 2026, placing it just two weeks after Tom Holland’s other major summer project. The leaks have clearly done nothing to cool interest in the movie itself, but they have done plenty to sour the experience of discovery for fans who wanted to see the Grey Hulk reveal in stunning clarity rather than a watermarked blur.

Whether you think the leakers crossed a line or whether Sony simply needs to rethink how it protects its own assets, this is a conversation worth having, so share your take on where the blame really lies.
