Spider-Man Star Tom Holland Reveals How He Feels About Being Iron Man’s Replacement In Marvel Cinematic Universe
Every Marvel fan knows how Marvel Cinematic Universe started. Back in 2008 with Iron Man movie, starring Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark. Downey Jr. portrayed the character in three Iron Man movies, four Avengers movies, Captain America Civil War, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and also had a cameo role in The Incredible Hulk. That’s 10 appearances as the character in 11 years.
Avengers: Endgame gave the definitive conclusion to the story of Tony Stark, and considering his mentor-pupil relationship with Tom Holland’s Peter Parker/Spider-Man, many fans are wondering is Spider-Man the face of the franchise now. Avengers: Endgame director Joe Russo recently revealed that is accurate.
“Tom is stepping into the role that Robert Downey once occupied for Marvel, which is the favorite character, and in a lot of ways the soul of the Marvel universe.” — Joe Russo for GQ
Tom Holland made five appearances as Spider-Man in MCU so far. He debuted in Captain America: Civil War, and reprised the role in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Spider-Man: Far From Home. His sixth MCU appearance will be Spider-Man: No Way Home, a highly anticipated movie that is set to conclude his Spider-Man trilogy, at least this one. Sony’s Amy Pascal revealed that they’re already planning one more trilogy with Holland as the web-crawler. Now, Holland revealed how he feels about being called the face of the franchise:
“I mean, I wouldn’t necessarily say that I’m the face of the universe. I know that fans are really supportive and have responded massively to this franchise. I’m honored that Joe thinks that. But, the beautiful thing about the MCU is, whoever is the leader, if there ever is a leader again, you’re never alone. You have so many people that you can rely on and lean on, and people that I’ve now worked with for years and years. So, I don’t necessarily feel those pressures, but should I feel those pressures, then yes, I’ll call Downey and ask, yeah. I called him the other day for a piece of advice, and he was very kind.” — for Josh Wilding’s YouTube channel
What do you think, is Tom Holland the face of the franchise now, or is it some other MCU actor?
Spider-Man: No Way Home will debut in theaters this Friday!
