At the Star Wars Celebration 2022 event in Anaheim, California, Disney and Lucasfilm officially announced a new original series set in the Star Wars franchise — Star Wars: Skeleton Crew — and Jude Law is the first actor officially announced to star in the series.
Jude Law is best known for 1999’s The Talented Mr. Ripley and 2003’s Cold Mountain, which got him two nominations for the Academy Awards, although he didn’t win for either of those movies. He also starred in the MCU movie Captain Marvel as the antagonist Yon-Rogg, the Sherlock Holmes movies starring Robert Downey Jr. as Dr. John Watson, and the Fantastic Beasts franchise, in which he played young Albus Dumbledore.
“Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, an Original series starring Jude Law, from executive producers Jon Watts, Christopher Ford, Jon Favreau, and Dave Filoni, is streaming in 2023 only on @DisneyPlus.”
Jon Watts, who is best known as the director of the Spider-Man Home trilogy in the MCU is the executive producer of this project along with MCU and Star Wars veteran Jon Favreau, who directed Iron Man, Iron Man 2, starred as Happy Hogan in several MCU projects, and he also created and wrote The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett series.
While the plot is kept under wraps, the series is expected to premiere in 2023, and it’s one of many Star Wars TV shows that are currently being developed for Disney+. Obi-Wan Kenobi is the next series, set to premiere this Friday, May 27, 2022.
